BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University’s Emily Turner and Dillon Floyd have been selected as Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week, after outstanding athletic performances during the week of Feb. 16-22.
Turner was a bright spot for the BSU track and field team Feb. 20, collecting two first place finishes at the BSU Twilight. The junior took first in the mile run with a time of 5:43.03 to finish more than ten seconds in front of her closest competitor. The Windom, Minn. native also teamed up with Sara Melom, Nicole Crummy and Morgan Beattie for a first place finish in the 4x400-meter relay (4:22.15).
Floyd established career-highs in three categories Feb. 21 as the BSU men’s basketball team dropped its 2014-15 home finale to Northern State University, 72-66. The senior from Palm Springs, Calif. totaled 18 points, eight rebounds and four steals.
Bemidji State men’s basketball finished the 2014-15 regular season Saturday with an 8-18 overall record and a 4-18 mark in the NSIC to give them the No. 8 seed in the North Division of the NSIC Sanford Health Men’s Basketball Tournament. The Beavers draw top-seeded Augustana College in the opening round. The Vikings, clinched their South Division title by going 20-2 in league play this season and 26-2 overall. Tip off is set for 8 p.m. Wednesday at Sioux Falls Arena.
The BSU track and field team wraps up its indoor season Feb. 26-27 as it travels to Mankato, Minn. to compete in the 2015 NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Events are set to get begin at 3 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. Friday.
