BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University head men’s basketball coach Mike Boschee announced today that Tanner Bruchs (Poynette, Wis.), Calvin Harrington (Park Forest, Ill.), Clay Seifert (Prescott, Wis.) and Jacob McNallan (Andover, Minn.) have committed to the Beavers’ basketball program and will enroll at the university next fall. These four student-athletes join Kyle Sorenson (Caledonia, Minn.), who committed to Bemidji State during the early signing period of Nov. 12-Nov. 19.
All signees are contingent upon admission to BSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.
“We are excited to add these four freshmen to BSU and the basketball program,” said head coach Mike Boschee. “They all are talented players that are good guys who love to play. They will represent Bemidji State very well athletically, academically and within the community. We are thankful they and their families chose BSU and look forward to working with them in the future.”
• Tanner Bruchs (G, 6-4, 185, Poynette, Wis. / Poynette HS)
A three-sport athlete, earning varsity letters in basketball (4), track and field (4) and football (3)…Bruchs was a three-time first-team all-conference recipient and as a senior he was First-Team Division III All-State…Averaged 19.3 points per game his senior season…Became Poynette High School’s all-time leading scorer with 1,543 career points…A two-time all-conference high jumper, was a state qualifier in the high jump…As a defensive back on the football team, he was a two-time first-team all-conference honoree…Academically, Bruchs was an eight-time honor roll member.
Personal: Born June 10, 1996…Son of Michael and Amy Bruchs…Undecided on an academic major at BSU.
• Calvin Harrington (G/F, 6-4, 180, Park Forest, Ill. / Rich East HS)
A participant in basketball and track and field during high school…Two-time all-conference selection and a member of a team that was a three-time regional champion…Average 17.3 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per contest during his senior year…Won the conference high jump title and took second in the sectional meet…A four-year honor roll student.
Personal: Born January 31, 1997…Son of Cleon Sr. and Tanya Harrington…Intends to major in education and computer programming at BSU…Uncle, James Smith played football at West Texas A&M University and for the Amarillo Venom Arena Football semi pro team…Smith also got a tryout with the Chicago Bears in 2013.
• Clay Seifert (G, 6-2, 174, Prescott, Wis. / Prescott HS)
A two-sport athlete and four-time letter winner in both basketball and baseball for the Prescott Cardinals…Averaged 14.5 points a game and 6.4 rebounds, while dishing out 5.1 assists per contest in 2014-15, Seifert was a three-time first-team all-conference honoree and a two-time Middle Border Conference Player of the Year…Member of a basketball team that was a two-time conference champion and a three-time regional champion…His senior season, the team was a state qualifier and he earned first-team all-state recognition…Voted team MVP three-times and voted most dedicated player…Seifert is a four-year honor roll student.
Personal: Born August 12, 1996…Son of Paul and Linda Seifert…Undecided on an academic major at BSU…His brother Gary, played basketball and baseball at Saint Mary’s University and cousin Laura Brainard, is on the Equestrian team at Texas A&M.
• Jacob McNallan (G, 6-1, 185, Andover, Minn. / Andover HS)
A three-sport athlete at Andover High School and letter winner in basketball (4), football (2) and track and field (2)…Became Andover’s all-time leading scorer and reached 1,000 points during his prep career…Is a two-time all-conference recipient and a honorable mention all-conference honoree in basketball…As a freshman he was the top freshmen high jumper in the state…Member of his basketball, football and track and field teams that were state participants…Graduating with honors from Andover High School.
Personal: Born July 22, 1996…Son of Kevin and Franny McNallan…Intends to major in computer science at BSU…His father, Kevin was a wrestler at St. Cloud State University…Mother played basketball and volleyball at Anoka Ramsey Community College…Sisters Rissi and Jenna, played volleyball at Minnesota State University, Mankato, while his other sister Dani played volleyball at University of North Dakota…Jacob also has ties to Bemidji State to Pat McNallan and Wanda Deveseouri, who were members of the football and volleyball teams, respectively.
