Bemidji State announces signing of guard Rovney

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University men’s basketball added to the depth and versatility of its freshman signing class as Head Coach Mike Boschee announced the signing of guard William “Aage” Rovney. The three-time All-Tri Metro Conference member is set to join the Beavers during the 2016-17 season.

William “Aage” Rovney, a 6-foot, 3-inch guard from St. Paul, Minn., joins Bemidji State after serving as a three-year starter and four-year varsity player at St. Croix Lutheran, finishing the past three seasons on the Tri-Metro All-Conference team. He played both point and shooting guard for the Crusaders that finished third place at the Minnesota State Class AA tournament twice. Rovney finished as a 1,000-point scorer and was named to the Minnesota Class AA All-Tournament team this past season. He averaged 16 points, 4.7 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game while shooting 45 percent from behind the arc and 88 percent from the charity stripe in his senior season. Rovney holds the school’s single-season record with 84 3-pointers and the career record with 247 3‘s.

“Aage is a great addition to the program. He is a proven shooter that loves to get in the gym for extra work,” Boschee said. “He will help not only as a terrific player but in the way he works at his game. He’s won a lot of games in his high school career but maybe more importantly, he wins in his day-to-day process. He will play both guard positions for us that adds to his versatility.”

Rovney joins five newcomers to Bemidji State in 2016-17, including 6-6 forward Logan Bader, 6-9 forward/post Zach Baumgartner, 6-6 guard Peyton Dibble, 6-4 guard Jai’Vionne Green and 6-7 forward Lucas Wendt.

Son of William and Kimberly Rovney, Aage plans to major in teaching at Bemidji State. His father played two years of basketball at Gustavus Adolphus College.

All signees are contingent upon admission to BSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.
