BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Three seniors will lead the 2016-17 Bemidji State University men’s basketball program after being selected team captains, Head Coach Mike Boschee announced today. Forwards Ben Best, Will Harvey and Shane White begin their final season with the Beavers.

Best, a senior forward from Drummond, Wis., started all 27 games for BSU last season while leading the program in four categories. He led the Beavers in points per game (11.8), rebounds (138), blocks (22) and field goal percentage (.523). Best averaged 26 minutes of action per game while totaling a .704 free throw percentage, 37 assists and 16 steals. His field goal percentage ranked him 15th in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and his blocked shots ranked him ninth.

Harvey, a senior forward from Albuquerque, N.M., started 10 of 25 games played in during the 2015-16 season. He led the team in rebounds per game (5.2) and ranked second in field goal percentage (.510), 3-point percentage (.400) and total rebounds (131). Harvey averaged 10.4 points in 19.9 minutes per game while blocking 15 total shots.

White, a senior forward from Rinelander, Wis., started two of 20 games played in and averaged 9.9 minutes per game. He recorded 1.4 points per game on a .379 field goal percentage. White averaged 2.2 rebounds per game as a key reserve on the bench.

Best and White earned NSIC All-Academic honors and National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court following the 2015-16 season.

Bemidji State begins exhibition play Friday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. against University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa followed by the final exhibition game of the season Thursday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. against University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. The Beavers begin regular season play Friday, Nov. 11 with the first of two games in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. BSU first plays Lindenwood University followed by a matchup against University of Central Missouri.
