Offensive attack sends BSU Men’s Hoops away with 83-57 loss at UMC

CROOKSTON, Minn. (Lysaker Gymnasium) -- An offensive attack against the Bemidji State University men’s basketball program sent the team away with an 87-53 loss against University of Minnesota Crookston at Lysaker Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. The Beavers (3-3, 0-1 NSIC) dropped the opening game of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schedule to the Golden Eagles (3-3, 1-0 NSIC).

Sophomore guard Jai’Vionne Green buried a 3-pointer just over one minute into the game to put Bemidji State in the lead for the first and only time during the first half, 3-2. The Golden Eagles retook the lead and extended it to nine points, 18-9, at the half way mark of the opening period.

Following a 6-2 run by BSU over the next two and a half minutes UMC went on a 13-0 run to take a first-half high 33-15 lead. Green put in two free throws, to finish the half with a team-high seven points, for the Beavers’ final points of the first half. Bemidji State faced a 34-17 deficit going into halftime, while being outrebounded, 25-16, by Minnesota Crookston.

Minnesota Crookston continued its shooting assault in the second half, despite Bemidji State doubling its point production from the first half. The Golden Eagles finished the game shooting 48.5 percent from the field while scoring 49 second half points.

Green lead Bemidji State in scoring with 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field with four rebounds. Sophomore forward Logan Bader followed Green with nine points and five rebounds, while sophomore forward Lucas Wendt led BSU with six rebounds.

UMC totaled 16 points off 14 BSU turnovers and won the rebound battle, 39-35.

Bemidji State continues the NSIC schedule with its first full weekend of league action at home Friday, Dec. 1 against University of Minnesota Duluth and Saturday, Dec. 2 against St. Cloud State University.
