Nevis guard Griffin Chase signs NLI to play with Beaver Men's Hoops

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- A local talent will be staying within the region as Bemidji State University men’s basketball Head Coach Mike Boschee announced the signing of guard Griffin Chase from Nevis, Minn. Chase plans to begin his Beaver career during the 2017-18 season.

Chase’s acceptance is contingent upon admission to BSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.

Griffin Chase, a 6-foot-3-inch guard from Nevis, Minn., is a letter winner in basketball and football at Nevis High School. He was selected as the Northland Conference MVP and also named to the All-Northland Conference Team. Chase helped the Tigers to the 2015 and 2017 Minnesota state basketball tournament. He was named to the NorthStar Hoops Class A All-State Team and finished his career at NHS with 2,219 points.

Chase was a straight A honor roll member and was also named academic all-state. The son of Kevin and Michelle Chase, he is a proposed major in education.

“We are excited to add Griffin to BSU Basketball,” Boschee said. “He’s a local talent that put up some impressive numbers at Nevis High School over the years. He understands the game really well and we like that he’s a bigger guard with some versatility that does a lot of things well on the court.”

The incoming group of freshmen for the 2017-18 season is now at six after the NLI signing of Chase. The incoming group also includes forward Adam Anhold (Janesville, Wis.), Kaden Hart (Faribault, Minn.), Mike Shepski (Lockport, Ill.), Derek Thompson (Cold Spring, Minn.) and Drew Yetka (Oak Creek, Wis.).
