BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University men’s golf coach Ekren Miller announced the addition of local golfer Matthew Gregg (Bemidji, Minn.) to the BSU golf program for the 2016-17 season. Gregg signed a National Letter of Intent during the NCAA’s early signing period beginning Nov. 11.
"It is a privilege to add the local talent of Matt Gregg for 2016-17," commented Miller. "He is a hard-working and serious competitor who will deepen our roster."
Miller added, "Our last string of NSIC conference titles all included Bemidji players."
Gregg participated in the 2015 Minnesota State High School League State Golf Tournament as a junior for the Bemidji High School boy’s golf team, tying for 41st place overall, carding rounds of 41-41-38-39 for a total score of 159. Matthew also competed in several tournaments with the Junior PGA events, highlighted by a first-place finish in Madden’s Pine Beach West Tournament as well as tying for second and a third place finish at Blueberry Pines Gulf Course Tournament and Junior Championship Qualifier No. 3 at Pokegama Gulf Course, respectively. Gregg wrapped up the tour tying for 36th place at the 2015 Minnesota Section Junior PGA Championship.
Gregg is also active on the Bemidji High School boy’s hockey team and participated in the 2015 Minnesota State High School League State Hockey Tournament.
All signees are contingent upon admission to BSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.
Under the direction of Miller, BSU competed in four events, including a first-place finish at the BSU Invite and a second-place finish at the Jamestown Invite. The team is led by junior Aaron Leintz, who participated in four events during the fall season, gaining two top-five finishes, while recording a team-best 69 round average in 10 rounds of action.
Bemidji State is set to open the spring portion of the 2015-16 men’s golf campaign in March.
