ST. CLOUD, Minn. (St. Cloud Country Club) -- Freshman Chris Curb (Bemidji, Minn.) paced the Bemidji State University men’s golf team to a third-place finish at the two-round, 15-team St. Cloud State University Husky Classic, held at the St. Cloud Country Club, Sept. 19 and 21. The Beavers posted an even 600 (294-306, +24) and trailed only Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference foes, Minnesota State, 296-293--589 (+13) and St. Cloud State, 298-300--598 (+22). BSU owned a two-stroke lead on MSU after day one and led the tournament. The closest team to BSU was Wayne State (Neb.), posting a 309-301--610 (+34). SCSU’s second team, black, rounded-out the top five with a 307-308--615 (+39). SCSU’s Evan Peters won the event with a one-over, 72-73--145. Curb, the reigning NSIC Co-Men’s Golfer of the Week, was just three-over, with a score of 70-77--147, finishing in a tie for third. His round of 70 on day one was the fifth-consecutive round under par. Also contributing for BSU was freshman Ben Moen (Bemidji, Minn.), who shot 73-76--149 (+5) and finished 10th. Junior Jim Foss (Roseau, Minn.) (76-76--152) and sophomore Casey Hill (Virginia, Minn.) (75-77--156) both tied for 16th at +8. Bemidji State’s second team finished ninth, posting a 308-315--623 (+47). They were led by sophomore Justin Johnson (Roseau, Minn.), who finished in a tie for 31st, shooting a 75-80--155 for a 11-over-par tournament. The next action for the men’s golf team is the St. Olaf Invitational, Sept. 26-27, in Cannon Falls, Minn. at the Summit Golf Course.
