BEMIDJI, Minn. (Bemidji Town and Country Club) -- Sophomore Jesse Nelson (Pine River, Minn.) carded a four-under-par 68 on the final day of the BSU Invitational Monday to slide into second place individually (71-68--139) and pace the Bemidji State University men's golf team to a team title. Nelson was one of three BSU golfers to finish the 36-hole tournament under par as Chris Curb (Fr., Bemidji, Minn.) and Jim Foss (Jr., Roseau, Minn.) posted a 70-71--141 and 71-71--142, respectively to finish fourth and fifth. The BSU squad cruised to a 12-stroke victory and its first BSU Invitational title since 2001. After 18 holes, the Beavers held a slim one-stroke lead over the University of Manitoba, but saw its lead grow today due to being the only team to finish at par or better with a 286-286--572 (-4). Manitoba and St. John's University (Minn.) carded matching scores of 584 (+8) to tie for second place while Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) foe St. Cloud State University posted a 592 (+16) to round out the top four teams. Medallist honors went to St. John's Dennis Granath, who posted a blistering 69-66--135 (-9) to run away with a five-shot victory. Powered by 151 (+7) from Josh Dale (Sr., Pequot Lakes, Minn.) and freshman Jordan Priem, Bemidji State's other team took 11th. Priem recorded the shot of the day, registering a hole-in-one on the Bemidji Town and Country Club's par-three, 171-yard 14th. The Beavers look to make it three tournament wins in a row this weekend as they travel to St. Cloud, Minn. to participate in the SCSU Invitational. Play begins Saturday at St. Cloud Country Club.
