INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Bemidji State University men's golf team has been selected to compete in the 2009 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships, the NCAA recently announced. BSU will participate in the Central/West Super Regional scheduled for May 4-5 at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb. BSU is one of 80 teams and 32 individuals across the country in postseason play this spring. Each of the four super regionals combine two regions, based on geographical location, to make up the 20-team, eight-individual super regional. The Central/West Regional will be hosted by University of Nebraska-Kearney. BSU comes into the super regional ranked seventh in the Central Region and along with Minnesota State University, St. Cloud State University and Upper Iowa University, represents the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). In addition, Brady Strangstalien of Winona State University qualified for the event as an individual. The top five teams and the top two individuals not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 19-22 at Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Washington. The finals will be hosted by Western Washington University. The University of West Florida captured the 2008 Division II Men’s Golf Championships team title, winning a three-team playoff on the first hole. The chase for medalist honors also went to sudden death, as Jeff Goff of South Carolina Aiken beat Florida Southern freshman Jude Eustaquio for the individual crown. Being invited to participate in the Central/West Regional in 2009, the Beavers make their fifth post-season appearance in the last six years.
