4/7/2009 - MEN'S GOLF NSIC honors Mitch Mackedanz as Golfer of the Week

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The awards continue to roll in for Bemidji State University golfer Mitch Mackedanz (Paynesville, Minn.). Today the senior was announced as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Men’s Golfer of the Week for his performance from Mar. 30-Apr. 5.

Mackedanz captured first place at the Upper Iowa Spring Invite Sunday at the Finkbine Golf Course, a par-72 7,027-yard course in Iowa City, Iowa. Mackedanz fired a three-over-par, 73 on the first 18 holes Saturday going into the club house tied four fourth, four strokes off the lead. He came out Sunday and shot a one-over-par, 73, four strokes better than his nearest competitor to take a four-stroke victory for his first event title this spring leading the Beavers to a team title.

The honor is the first of its kind for Foss and marks the third golfer of the week hailing from Bemidji State in 2008-09. Mackedanz follows Casey Hill and James Foss who garnered the honor on Sept. 24 and Sept. 10 during the fall portion of BSU’s schedule.

Mackedanz and the rest of the Bemidji State men’s golf team travel to Jewel Golf Course in Lake City, Minn. to compete in the third and final tournament that comprise the 2008-09 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Men’s Golf Championship Apr. 10-11. The third round will consist of 18 holes on both Friday and Saturday. Mackedanz is currently third in the individual standings with Bemidji State holding down the third spot in the team standings after the first two rounds of the NSIC Championship.
