4/2/2009 - MEN'S GOLF Missouri Western State downs Beavers in duel

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (Fairview Golf Course) -- The Bemidji State University men’s golf team competed in its second duel of the spring season as the Beavers battled Missouri Western State University for the second consecutive day from the Fairview Golf Course in St. Joseph, Mo.

The second duel in as many days between the Beavers and Griffons brought with it a different outcome. The Griffons bounced back, shaving a blistering 23 strokes from their day-one total, to nip the Beavers. Although BSU trimmed 17 shots from its first round total (291), MWSU’s team result of 286 allowed the Griffons to slip past the Beavers.

Derek Harris paved the way for BSU Wednesday shooting his best round of the spring as he finished two-under-par for a second place finish. James Foss finished two shots behind Harris with a one-over-par 73 while Casey Hill and Jesse Nelson tied for sixth posting 74’s (+2). Mitch Mackedanz fired a 76 (+4) to tie for 8th with BSU’s individual players, Josh Dale and Daniel Menton finishing in 11th and 12th place. Missouri Western’s Derek Thorne earned top honors firing a four-under-par 68.

Bemidij State is back in action this weekend (Apr. 4-5) when the Beavers participate in the Hartland Inn and Upper Iowa Spring Classic in Iowa City, Iowa at the Finkbine Golf Course.

Bemidji State University, located in Bemidji, Minn., is an NCAA Division II institution and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
