Bemidji State men's hockey returns to action; Travels to St. Cloud State

The rubber meets the road this weekend for the Bemidji State University men’s ice hockey team as it embarks on its only road trip of December. The Beavers travel to St. Cloud, Minn. for a two-game WCHA series versus St. Cloud State University on the Olympic ice sheet of National Hockey Center. Friday's series opener will begin at 7:37 p.m. with a 7:07 opening face off set for the finale Saturday.

Special teams and defense lead Beavers to 1-0 win versus North Dakota

Feb. 7, 1970. That was the last time the Bemidji State University men's hockey team had beaten the University of North Dakota before picking up a 1-0 win over the Fighting Sioux Sunday night at Sanford Center. Jordan George's (Jr., F, Madison, Wis.) second period power-play goal proved to be the only goal of the game as Dan Bakala (Sr., G, Calgary, Alberta) back stopped the Beavers to a shutout of the Fighting Sioux.


Strong third period propels North Dakota past BSU 5-2

The University of North Dakota used third period goals from Mario Lamoureux and two from Ben Blood to get by Bemidji State University 5-2 Saturday night at Sanford Center. The Beavers were tied up 2-2 with the Fighting Sioux after a Shea Walters goal early in the third period but UND quickly answered with their three late goals.


Beavers look to end UND's dominance in rivalry this weekend

The Bemidji State University men’s ice hockey team is back in the comfort of Sanford Center this weekend as it hosts regional rival University of North Dakota for a two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) series. He learned about legendary coach R.H. “Bob” Peters, the successes of his teams and how he preached hard work, loyalty and commitment. Alaska, Ferris State and Lake Superior State accept WCHA membership invitations

WCHA extends membership invitations to five CCHA-member schools

The Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) today (Aug. 25) extended invitations to five Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) member institutions to join the league beginning with the 2013-14 season. Northern Michigan to Rejoin WCHA Family

The Chief Executive Officers of the five Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) programs committed to the league for the 2013-14 season met Friday in St. Paul, Minn. to discuss issues regarding the future of the Association.


The WCHA comments on announcement of new hockey conference

As expected, five members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) announced Tuesday they would be leaving the association to participate in the start-up NCAA Division I National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) beginning with the 2013-14 season. The departing members include: Denver, Colorado College, Minnesota Duluth, Nebraska-Omaha and North Dakota. The announcement came just months after Minnesota and Wisconsin made public their intentions to leave the league for the Big Ten Conference, and further accelerates the changing landscape in collegiate hockey.


Bemidji State remains in good academic standing with NCAA

The Bemidji State University men’s and women’s ice hockey teams have again met the Academic Progress Rate (APR) standards set fourth by the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). These scores provide performance benchmarks for all NCAA Division I programs under the Association’s standards for academic progress and performance beginning with data from the 2006-07 and extending through the 2009-10 academic year.

Adams selected to Capitol One Academic All-District V team

Bemidji State University men’s ice hockey defenseman Ryan Adams (Sr., Deloraine, Manitoba) has been selected to the 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-District® V Men’s At-Large Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Adams, a Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Scholar Athlete, earned a first team nod and will now be included on the 2010-11 University Division Capitol One/CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot.


Kinne, Areshenko and Hunt to captain 2011-12 BSU men’s hockey team

Ben Kinne (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.), Jake Areshenko (Jr., Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) and Brad Hunt (Sr., Ridge Meadows, British Columbia) will serve as the captains of the 2011-12 Bemidji State University men’s ice hockey team. Kinne will wear the “C” and captain the team, while Areshenko and Hunt were named alternate captains.
