Tuesday, January 22, 2013 BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University men's ice hockey team returns to the Sanford Center this weekend for a Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) series versus University of Nebraska-Omaha. BSU head coach Tom Serratore met with the media Tuesday (Jan. 22) to discuss the Beavers' weekend's opponent, the Mavericks. The Bemidji State/Nebraska-Omaha series got its start Feb. 18, 1999. Despite UNO claiming the first four meetings, BSU has battled back to gain a lead in the rivalry at 8-6-4 and is 7-1-4 in the last 12 meetings between the teams. BSU is 2-1-1 versus the Mavericks in games played in Bemidji, Minn., which includes a 3-3 (OT) tie and a 5-1 loss Nov. 11-12, 2011 in the teams' last meeting at Sanford Center. Earlier this season (Oct. 26-27), BSU earned three points in the standings when the teams met in Omaha, Neb. to open the WCHA campaign--a weekend that ignited a seven-game wining streak for the Mavericks. The series opener is set for 7:37 p.m. Friday, with the deciding match up slated for a 7:07 p.m. opening face off Saturday. Tickets for the conference series are still available and can be purchased at the Sanford Center Bob Lowth Ford Pick Up Window, Ticketmaster outlets such as either Lueken's Village Foods Bemidji location, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000. --bsu-- ![]() |
