BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University men’s ice hockey team will take its first step toward the 2013-14 season this weekend. The Beavers will skate in their first official practice of the season Saturday from 10:15 a.m.-1 p.m. at Neilson-Reise Arena. With just six days to prepare for its 58th season opener and 2013 Frozen Four participant St. Cloud State University (Oct. 11-12), BSU will be hard at it again Sunday from 10:15 a.m.-1 p.m.
Monday, the team settles into is normal practice routine at Sanford Center and will practice from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Bemidji State men’s hockey, which finished 6-22-8 overall and posted an 5-16-7 mark in WCHA play to finish 11th in the league, wrapped up its 2012-13 campaign with a trip to No. 2 University of Minnesota for the opening round of the WCHA playoffs. BSU opens its 2013-14 home slate Oct. 18 when it hosts the University of Minnesota.
Opening his 13th season as head coach of the BSU men’s hockey program, Tom Serratore welcomes back 15 players from the 2012-13 roster, which includes Danny Mattson (Jr., F, Minneapolis, Minn.), the team’s top assist man a year ago, and Cory Ward (So., F, Las Vegas, Nev.), who recorded nine goals as a freshman. After losing nine players to graduation a the conclusion of the 2012-13 campaign, Serratore will have 11 newcomers on the roster to open the season.
