Beavers bitten by Seawolves in OT, 2-1

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Sanford Center) – Locked 1-1 though 60 minutes of play, the University of Alaska-Anchorage got a break with just over one minute left in five-on-five overtime play and made if count. Trey deGraaf forced a turnover in the neutral zone and found Jeremiah Luedtke behind the BSU defenders for a breakaway shot that rattled through Henry Johnson's leg pads for the game-winning goal.

The win snapped a 13-game winless streak for the Seawolves and ended a six-game losing skid to the Beavers.

After over 18 minutes of scoreless play, Bemidji State was first on the scoreboard. Charlie Combs netted his ninth goal of the season at the 18:37 mark. He took a pass from Owen Sillinger in the slot and beat the UAA goaltender Brody Claeys. Adam Brady was also credited with an assist, starting the play by digging the puck out of the corner.

Alaska-Anchorage battled back in the third period stealing an attempt to clear the zone on the side wall and blasting a slap shot just inside the left post to tie the game 1-1 at the 3:33 mark of the frame. David Trinkberger was credited with the game-tying goal and ultimately pushing the game into extra time.

Henry Johnson, who was making his second consecutive start for the first time this season, turned aside 21 of the 23 shot she faced and backstopped a penalty-kill unit that finished the night 3-for-3 and the weekend 5-for-5. His record drops to 5-4-1 on the season.

The Beavers dip to 8-8-2 overall and 6-5-1-0 in WCHA play. BSU will now break for the holidays and return to action with a Dec. 29-30 road trip to Colorado Springs, Colo. To battle the Air Force Academy in non-conference action. Opening faceoff is set for 8 p.m. (CST) Saturday and 6 p.m. (CST) Sunday. The trip begins a four-game road swing that will include a WCHA series at Bowling Green State University January 3-4.
