Baudry and Sillinger power Beavers to 6-1 road win

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (Ewigleben Arena) -- Bemidji State University captain Justin Baudry posted two goals and two assists, while Owen Sillinger scored two goals, including a shorty-handed tally, as the Beavers completed a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series win with a 6-1 victory at Ferris State University Saturday.

BSU scored early and often, netting a 5-0 lead through 29 minutes of play and cruised to the league victory. Sillinger sparked the scoring burst netting his seventh goal of the season just 3:04 after the opening face off. Baudry followed with a power-play goal on BSU's second opportunity of the night, at the 19:33 mark, sending BSU into the first break owning a 2-0 lead.

Baudry scored his second goal of the game at the 2:25 mark of the second period, kicking off a five-goal period and propelling BSU to a 6-1 lead after 40 minutes. Jay Dickman potted his sixth goal of the season at the 3:19 mark of the second to make good on BSU's second power-play of the evening.

Owning a commanding 4-0 led early in the second, FSU got an opportunity to change the momentum at the 8:55 mark when BSU's Aaron Miller was whistled for a five-minute major for checking from behind. Instead of allowing the Bulldogs to use the extended man advantage to claw their way back into the game, Sillinger intercepted a pass and deposited his first collegiate short-handed goal over the glove hand of the FSU goaltender, Justin Kapelmaster at the nine-minute mark.

In addition to putting BSU up 5-0, it ended the night for Kapelmaster after 29 minutes.

The BSU penalty kill unit survived the major without giving up a goal, but 15 seconds after the penalty expired, Nate Kallen was credited with a goal that was deflected twice in front of BSU's Zach Driscoll for what would be the Bulldogs' only goal of the evening.

BSU sophomore blueliner Tyler Vold capped the period with his fourth goal of the season at the 19:08 mark.

In all, nine different BSU players found the scoring column. In addition to Baudry and Sillinger, Dickman (1g-1a), Combs (2a) and Harris (2a) collected multi-point efforts.

The Beavers finished the night 2-for-6 on the man advantage and its penalty-kill unit snuffed out all four of FSU's power-play chances to post its ninth straight game and 28 opponent opportunities.

Driscoll capped the night and his ninth win of the season with 24 saves in 59:53 between the pipes. He improves to 9-6-2.

The Beavers, now 14-12-4 overall and 12-8-2-1 in WCHA play will return to Sanford Center next weekend for a league series with Northern Michigan University. BSU with host the Wildcats for a 7:07 p.m. opening face off Friday to get the series underway and the teams will clash again at 7:07 p.m. Saturday.
