Areshenko logged time in 37 of Bemidji State’s 38 games in 2010-11, starting 27 times... Ranked third among BSU blueliners with a -1 plus/minus rating... Established career-highs for goals (1), assists (7) and points (8) as a sophomore... Recorded his first collegiate goal in a 3-0 shutout over then-No. 4 Nebraska-Omaha (12/3/10)... Established himself as one of the Beavers’ toughest defensemen to play against and logged time on the BSU penalty kill that held opponents to .211 on the man advantage... Named as a 2011 WCHA Scholar Athlete... Earned a spot on the 2011 Academic All-WCHA Team.
2009-10 / Freshman
Areshenko logged time in 33 games as a freshman, starting 13 times, including anchoring the blue line for the Beavers’ 2010 NCAA Midwest Regional semifinal contest... Began his collegiate career in the Beavers’ second game of 2009-10 (10/9/09)... Recorded his first point in the green and white, an assist, (11/6/09) as the Beavers garnered a 2-0 victory over Robert Morris... Added an assist in a 6-1 victory at Minnesota (11/15/09)... Recorded the third helper of his freshman season in BSU’s 6-1 win over Niagara in the final game in the John S. Glas Fieldhouse--BSU’s hockey home for the last 43 seasons... Anchored a BSU blueline that has allowed a meager 2.28 goals per game to enter the NCAA Tournament ranked fifth in the country in scoring defense... BSU was 3-0-0 when he recorded a point... He was +11 in 2009-10... Was named to the 2010 CHA All-Rookie Team.
Prior to BSU
Areshenko played in 68 of 70 games as a defenseman for the Fargo Force of the United State Hockey League (USHL) in 2008-09... Patrolled a blue line for a team that ranked second in the league’s Western Division in goals allowed (166)... In addition, Areshenko recorded two goals and seven assists, which included a lamplighter and three helpers on the power play... He carried a +7 plus/minus rating on the season... The Force, 32-23-5 in its first season as a member of the USHL, clinched a playoff berth and after sweeping Omaha... After discarding Lincoln, Fargo was knocked out of the postseason by Indiana... Areshenko posted 0-4=4 points in 10 playoff games... Areshenko contributed an assist on the power-play in Fargo’s 4-2 win over the Lancers (4/11/08)... Highlights of the 2008-09 season in addition to his playoff helper included: Scoring is first goal as a member of the Force Oct. 18 in a 6-1 loss at Sioux City and recording a goal and an assist in a 6-2 victory over Green Bay (2/6/08).

His grandfather, Dave Gunther, a long-time collegiate basketball coach in this region, served as BSU’s head men’s basketball coach from 1995-2001.
