Scored his first point of the season with a goal in a 5-0 win opening weekend against Lake Superior State (10/20/12)... Registered a career high in penalty minutes with four at Wisconsin (2/8/13)... Was second on team in blocked shots with 62... Was a member of the WCHA All-Academic Team.
2011-12 / Freshman
Broke into the Bemidji State line up in late October and saw time in 32 games, which included the Beavers’ final 30 games of 2011-12... Made two starts... Scored one goal... Made his collegiate debut In a 3-1 victory over Michigan Tech (10/2/11)... Logged his first collegiate point netting a goal to help lead the Beavers to a 6-4 victory over Nebraska-Omaha (2/4/12)... Was called for eight penalties and served 16 minutes... Was second to only fellow freshman Matt Prapavessis with 62 blocked shots.
Prior to BSU
Sam Windle came to Bemidji State after splitting the 2010-11 season between Chicago and Des Moines of the United State Hockey League (USHL)... Finished the campaign with 16 points (6g-10a) in 58 games between the teams... Played the final 27 games in Des Moines where he logged seven points (2g-5a) to rank third among Buccaneers’ defensemen... Windle was selected to participate in the 2010 World Junior A Challenge, where he helped the U.S. Junior Select team to a perfect 5-0-0 record en route to capturing the gold medal... Windle spent the 2010-11 season ranked among the top players in North America according to the NHL Central Scouting’s rankings of Tier I Junior A... A native of Maple Grove, Minn., Windle played high school hockey for former Beaver captain Mark Phenow (1998-2001) at Osseo High School, where he recorded seven goals and 19 assists for 26 points, finished the season with a plus/minus rating of +32 and scored in 12 of the first 14 games as a junior.
Born to Craig and Susan Windle Mar. 10, 1992, Samuel Joseph Windle has selected sports management as major with a minor in business administration... Is a member of the Dean’s List... Twin brother Tom plays baseball at the University of Minnesota... Listed at 6-4, Windle will be one of just four players on record at BSU to measure over 6-3--a group that includes BSU great Joel Otto (1980-84).
