Senior Kristi Buerkle (Stacy, Minn.) was recognized for her efforts in the 200-meter and 400-meter dash events, while Raphael Gelo (So., Kabetogama, Minn.) in the pole vault and Tandy Juell (So., Redwood Falls, Minn.) was honored for his efforts in both the javelin and heptathlon events.

Bemidji State University will discontinue its men’s indoor and outdoor track and field athletic programs, effective at the end of the 2010-11 academic year. The elimination of the programs came today as BSU President Dr. Richard Hanson unveiled the University’s plan to address an expected $5 million shortfall for the biennium,which can directly attributed to the economic challenges the State of Minnesota is facing with its budget deficit.

In the 200-meter dash, the 2010 indoor All-America performer broke the tape in 26.24, while she posted the fastest time in the NSIC this season finishing first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.02.

It may have been nearly eight months since Zac Preble was competing at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, but the former Bemidji State standout proved his days of competing at a high level are not yet behind him. The 2010 graduate came back to the Gillett Recreation/Fitness center to compete in the 2011 Super 8 Open Multi and won the heptathlon with 4,428 points.

Already the owner of BSU’s 200-, 300-, 400-meter dash records along with having her name associated on the school’s 4x400-meter relay mark, Buerkle broke a eight-year-old standard in the 600-meter dash Saturday en route to top honors in the event and placed first in the 200 (25.66).

Bemidji State University All-America multi-event athlete Zac Preble (Sr., Coleraine, Minn.) has been selected as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Male Field Athlete of the Week after posting a first-place finish and automatically qualifying for the 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the St. John’s University Decathlon in Collegeville, Minn. April 11-12.

Chelsea Preble (Sr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) earned top female honors, while her husband Zac Preble (Sr., Coleraine, Minn.) has been selected for the male award after outstanding athletic accomplishments during the week of April 5-12.

Bemidji State's All-America multi-event athlete Zac Preble (Sr., Coleraine, Minn.) punched his ticket for Charlotte, N.C. and the 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships today with a standout performance at the St. John’s University Decathlon in Collegeville, Minn. The senior scored 7,026 in the 10-event competition to automatically qualify for the national meet and come within 59 points of his own school-record score.

Bemidji State University All-America sprinter Kristi Buerkle (Jr., Stacy, Minn.) and multi-event athlete Zac Preble (Sr., Coleraine, Minn.) have been named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) 2010 Preseason Outdoor Athletes of the Year. The announcement came today as the league office unveiled the 2010 Preseason Outdoor Coaches’ Polls. The Beaver men’s and women’s teams were each picked to finish 10th.

Bemidji State senior Zac Preble (Coleraine, Minn.) was today recognized by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Preble was named 2010 Central Regional Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, joining 33 student-athletes from across the country on the list of awards voted on by NCAA Division II coaches.

Their team totals may not have been what they would have liked, but that didn’t stop a pair of BSU track and field athletes from stealing the show at the 2010 NSIC Championships. Kristi Buerkle was named NSIC Indoor Female Track Athlete of the Year, while Zac Preble garnered the league’s Male Indoor Athlete of the Year award as the indoor championships came to an end tonight at in Mankato, Minn.

The BSU men’s and women’s track and field teams began competition at the 2010 NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships today at Minnesota State’s Myers Fieldhouse. On a day full of preliminary races, distance run finals and field events, its was the Beavers’ throwers that led the way for the team.

Zac Preble (Sr., Coleraine, Minn.) captured his fourth consecutive Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) heptathlon title Monday with a school and conference record 5,245 points. The senior now ranks as the top multi event athlete in the country, automatically qualifying for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships.
