BEMIDJI, Minn.  -- The weekly radio show, “Sports in the Round,” which is held on Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. at The Ground Round, will this week feature the Bemidji State University men's and women’s track and field teams. BSU track and field head coach Criag Hougen will join the show to discuss the squad's performance at last weekend's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships and their national qualifiers, junior Kristi Buerkle (Stacy, Minn.) and senior Zac Preble (Coleraine, Minn.).

Buerkle gained All-NSIC honors in two events last weekend, including capturing the league’s 400-meter dash title in 55.09, shattering school and conference records en route to automatically qualifying for the NCAA Division II Championships with the nation’s fastest time. For her efforts, she was named NSIC Female Track Athlete of the Year.

Preble earned his fourth consecutive NSIC championship in the heptathlon and set a new league record (5,245) to solidify him as the top-ranked multi-event athlete in the nation this indoor season. He was named 2010 NSIC Indoor Male Field Athlete of the Year. The BSU men finished ninth and the women finished 10th in the final standings. 

The show will also feature BSU sophomore goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova (Bratislava, Slovakia), who recently sat down with Kelly Schultz to talk about her experiences backstopping the Slovakian Team at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

University of Alabama-Huntsville head men's hockey coach Danton Cole will be on the program to discuss this weekend's final regular-season series with the Beavers.

Also appearing on the show are Bemidji State’s Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week, who are Preble and Buerkle.

As always, the hosts for the “Sports in the Round” are Brian Schultz, Kelly Schultz and Brian Bissonette. The two-hour program can be heard on WMIS 92.1 The River or online at http://wmisfm.com.
