BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University women’s hockey program today announced the signing of Tess Dusik (Oak Bluff, Manitoba) to a National Letter of Intent for the 2010-11 season during the NCAA’s regular signing period beginning April 14. Dusik follows Balmoral Hall teammate Emily McKnight to Bemidji State, who signed with the Beavers during the early signing period in November.

All signees are contingent upon admission to BSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.

“We’re very excited about Tess coming here and being a big part of Bemidji State women’s hockey,” said head coach Steve Sertich. “Tess is an outstanding young person; we are delighted to add another player with great character  and outstanding family. and a honor roll student in the classroom who plays at a solid program like Balmoral Hall School in Winnipeg, Manitoba

Dusik becomes the fifth Canadian listed on the BSU squad for the 2010-11 season. Dusik captained the Blazers to a fourth place finish in the west division of the Junior Women’s Hockey League for the 2009-10 season. In 2008-09 the Blazers finished second in the JWHL, in which Dusik scored the game-winning goal against the Westmon Wildcats to pick up the program’s 100th win. In the same season, Dusik scored an overtime-shoot-out goal to defeat Shattuck St. Mary’s. While playing for Team Manitoba in the 2009 National Women’s U18 Championship, Dusik scored a hat trick in a 13-0 win over British Columbia to help keep her team in contention for the gold medal.

Dusik also competed in the Under-18 Team Canada conditioning camps during the summers of 2008 and 2009, along with playing on Team White in the 2009-10 Selection Camp for the U18 Canadian National Team.

“I liked Bemidji State because it felt like home to me,” Dusik said. “The coaches are friendly, it has a great atmosphere, and I felt like I wasn’t going to get brushed off to the side. I think it’s a good fit with the girls, we communicate well and I believe I’m going to have a great time at Bemidji State.”
