Challenge held in Detroit, Mich. April 9. From a field of nominated seniors from across the country, the skills challenge selection committee kept McKelvie among the final the rosters of 16 males and 16 females, marking the second consecutive season in which a BSU student-athlete has been among the skills challenge field. Last spring, Tyler Scofield was named to the West squad, but pulled out of the competition due to the Beavers’ NCAA Midwest Regional Championship, making the Frozen Four. The skills challenge will take place at Ford Field on Friday, April 9 as part of the national championship weekend. Events included in the challenge will be: the puck control relay, hardest shot, fastest skater, rapid fire shooting, accuracy shooting and penalty shot. The evening will also include the presentation of the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, the Hockey Humanitarian Award and the announcement of the American Hockey Coaches’ Association All-America teams. McKelvie, who will compete for the West Team, currently sits eighth on the team in scoring with 17 points, posting career-highs in goals scored (8) and assists (9). Competing in all 34 of BSU outings this season, the team captain is second on the team with three game-winning goals. McKelvie has been part of team nucleus that has garnered three consecutive College Hockey America (CHA) Regular-Season titles, a CHA Tournament Championship, a NCAA Midwest Regional title and guided BSU to its first Frozen Four in program history just a year ago. Not only will McKelvie represent BSU, he will also be the CHA’s only representative. Tickets for the event are on sale now and can be purchased by logging on to Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com. McKelvie and the BSU men’s hockey team are back in action this weekend as they open 2010 CHA Tournament play Friday with a semifinal match up versus Niagara University. The game, the second semifinal of the day will take place at 6 p.m. (CST) with the third place game to follow Saturday at 3 p.m. (CST) and the championship to be played at 7 p.m. (CST). --bsu-- ![]() |
