3/16/2010 - BASEBALL Beavers slip to ninth in NCBWA central region poll

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Bemidji State University baseball team fell a spot in the March 16 edition of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Central Region poll, moving to ninth.

The Beavers (9-8) had 13 points in the poll after posted 18 in the previous two weeks of rankings. BSU battled Arkansas Tech University in their last action March 11, getting their first taste of outdoor baseball. The contest didn’t fair too well for the Beavers as they could only muster two hits, losing 8-1.

New Mexico Highlands of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) was the region’s top team for the third consecutive week with 69 points, taking home six of the seven possible first place votes. Minnesota State University, Mankato was second with 60 points and a first place vote. Winona State University was third (55 points), St. Cloud State University (52 points) was fourth and Colorado State-Pueblo (44 points) was fifth to round-out the top five.

The Beavers begin home and Nothern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play March 20-21 against the NSIC’s reigning regular-season champions, Wayne State College. Both days have doubleheaders slated for 12 p.m. at the BSU Baseball Field.
