3/28/2010 - WOMEN'S TENNIS Beavers drop nonconference meeting at Minnesota Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University tennis team fell to 1-2 on the weekend and 3-8 overall Sunday after dropping a 7-2 nonconference match up versus University of Minnesota Duluth at Arrowhead Tennis Center in Duluth, Minn.

The Bulldogs took a 2-1 advantage into singles competition after earning wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions by the scores of 8-6. The BSU team of Kara Johnson (Jr., Andover, Minn.) and Kelli Christiansen (So., Bemidji, Minn.) salvaged a doubles point at the No. 2 spot dropping the UMD squad of Brittany Thompson and Lyndsey Seaver, 8-6.

After Farrah Steinke (Sr., Crosby, Minn.) and Lindsay Luberda (Sr., Champlin, Minn.) fell in No 1 and No. 2 singles action, the Beavers got a singles point at No. 3 singles when Britney Greenwaldt (So., Morris, Minn.) defeated the Bulldogs’ Brittany Thompson in a tie-breaker 6-4, 7-6 (5).  But UMD would power through to earn wins at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to close out the match victory, 7-2.

Bemidji State, now 3-8 overall and 2-4 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play, returns to action April 2, when it hosts Southwest Minnesota State University for a NSIC match up.  The event is slated to begin at 2 p.m. at the Gillett Recreation/Fitness Center.
