Softball loses three at Pitt State Invitational
Pittsburg, Kan. — The Bemidji State softball team lost three games, one to Pittsburg State 8-5, and two to Missouri Southern State 11-1 and 9-4, on Saturday at the Pittsburg State Invitational.

In the first game of the day against Pitt State, the Beavers scored five runs on 10 hits and two Gorilla errors. After getting down 2-0, BSU knocked in three runs in the third inning to take the lead. Kayla Babinski (Fr., IF, Devils Lake, N.D.) scored for the Beavers while a home run from Jamie Ford (Sr., OF, Edina, Minn.) scored Erin Emanuel (Fr., IF, Esko, Minn.). The Beaver lead wouldn’t last long as the Gorillas took the lead back after the fourth inning. In the fifth, two runs from Emanuel and Ford tied the game up at 5-5. The homer by Ford was her first of the season and the teams fourth. Pittsburg State went on to score three more runs to finish out the game, 8-5, beating BSU for the third time this weekend.

Kelsey Saralampi (Fr., P/OF, Esko, Minn.) (1-2) and Courtney Anderson (So., P, Virginia, Minn.) split time in the circle for the Beavers giving up 6 hits each.

Continuing the day, Bemidji State then played a doubleheader against Missouri Southern State. In the first game against the Lions, BSU scored one run on five hits and one MSSU error. Emanuel once again scored for the Beavers, this time in the first inning giving BSU an early lead. However, 11 unanswered runs by Missouri Southern State gave the Lions the eventual win. Jamie Lund (Jr., P/UT, Grantsburg, Wis.) (0-2), Chelsea Cardinal (Fr., P/OF, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Anderson all shared time in the circle.

Finishing out the day, the Beavers had four runs on 11 hits and two Lion errors. In the third inning Ford and Emanuel scored runs for the third time in as many games in the day. Later in the fifth inning Stephanie Rossman (Fr., C/IF, Menomonee Falls, Minn.) and Kaitlin Hill (Fr., IF, Dayton, Minn.) scored the last two more runs of the weekend for the Beavers. Saralampi (1-3) started in the circle for the Beavers before being replaced by Cardinal in the fourth inning. Cardinal pitched the remainder of the game giving up only one run on two hits.

Bemidji State will be back in action on April 2 hosting a conference doubleheader against Concordia-St. Paul, with the first game set to start at noon.
