Bemidji State lands 23 on 2012 Spring Academic All-NSIC Team

Bemidji State University landed 23 student-athletes on the 2012 Spring Academic All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Team, announced by the league office today.


Beavers close out season with pair of losses to Valley City State

The Bemidji State University softball team was swept by the Valley City State University Vikings Wednesday afternoon in Valley City, N.D. to conclude the 2012 season with a 10-37 (3-23 NSIC) record. Valley City State improves to 25-18 on the season. The Beavers won five more games this season under first-year head coach Rick Supinski then they did in 2011. BSU lost the first game 8-3 and fell in game two 4-1.


Beavers close the season with pair against Valley City State

The Bemidji State University softball team will travel to Valley City State University to wrap up the 2012 campaign with a pair of nonconference games. The contests will commence at 3 and 5 p.m. in Valley City, N.D. BSU comes into the games with a 10-35 (3-23 NSIC) record. Valley City State is 21-18 on the season. The two teams split earlier this season as they met in Bemidji, Minn. March 27 with the Beavers winning game one 2-0 and the Vikings taking game two 6-2.


BSU wraps up NSIC slate with pair of losses to Upper Iowa

The Bemidji State University softball team fell narrowly 1-0 to Upper Iowa University in game one and dropped game two to the Peacks 5-1 Sunday afternoon in Fayette, Iowa. Courtney Anderson (Sr., RHP, Virginia, Minn.) pitched a seven-hitter in game one and Kayla Babinski (Jr., IF, Devils Lake, N.D.) hit a home run in game two but neither were enough to overcome Upper Iowa. The Beavers fall to 10-35 (3-23 NSIC) as they concluded their conference slate with Sunday’s games. Upper Iowa improves to 18-35 (30-16 NSIC).

BSU falls in pair of one-hitters to No. 10 Winona State

Bemidji State University softball pitchers Courtney Anderson (Sr., RHP, Virginia, Minn.), Kelsey Saralampi (Jr., LHP, Esko, Minn.) and Allison Roberts (Fr., RHP, Crystal, Minn.) held No. 10 Winona State University to three runs in each game of a doubleheader but were one-hit in both games as they fell 3-0, 3-0 Saturday afternoon. The Beavers fall to 10-33 (3-21 NSIC). The Warriors improve to 38-7 (19-5 NSIC) with the doubleheader sweep.

The Beavers have put up a 10-31 (3-19 NSIC) mark improving their win total from the 2011 season as they finished 5-27 overall.

Bemidji State falls in doubleheader to U-Mary in Bismarck

The Bemidji State University softball team fell in a doubleheader to the University of Mary Tuesday in Bismarck, N.D. The Marauders won 7-0 in game one and took a 8-0 victory in five innings in the second game. Bemidji State falls to 10-31 (3-19 NSIC). U-Mary improved to 21-16 (12-10 NSIC).


Beavers travel to Bismarck to face U-Mary Tuesday

The Bemidji State University softball team will head to Bismarck, N.D. to face University of Mary for a mid-week Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheader Tues., April 17 with games commencing at 2 and 4 p.m. The Beavers enter play with a 10-29 (3-17 NSIC) record. U-Mary is 19-16 (10-10 NSIC) on the season. BSU is coming off a 1-3 weekend at home last weekend as they picked up a win over Concordia University, St. Paul, the team’s first win over the Golden Bears since 2009.


BSU softball signs Dickinson and Osterman for 2013 season

The Bemidji State University softball team announced the signing of two players to Rick Supinski’s inaugural class as the head of the Beaver softball program. Brittany Dickinson (P/IF, Superior, Colo.) and Mikayla Osterman (C, Hereford, Ariz.) both signed National Letters of Intent to play for Bemidji State during the regular signing period.


Beavers suffer doubleheader loss to St. Cloud State

The Bemidji State University softball team dropped two to St. Cloud State University Sunday at BSU Softball Field. St. Cloud State’s Kelly Franks threw a no hitter in game one to lead the Huskies to a 4-0 win. In game two, St. Cloud State used a seven-run fifth inning to come away with a 13-7 victory over the Beavers in game two. Bemidji State fell to 10-29 (3-17 NSIC). St. Cloud State improved to 20-26 (6-14 NSIC). The two teams were able to get both games in despite the Bemidji area being plagued with rain for most of the day Sunday. The two games Sunday end BSU’s home dates and served as the final home affairs for BSU’s four seniors.


Hitting barrage ignites Beaver split with Golden Bears

The Bemidji State University softball team used 11 hits and strong performance from Courtney Anderson (Sr., RHP, Virginia, Minn.) in the circle to come away with 7-1 win in game one against Concordia University, St. Paul Saturday at BSU Softball Field. The Beavers stayed close for most of game two before falling late, 5-1, to the Golden Bears. The win is the first for BSU over Concordia-St Paul since 2009. The Beavers’ game one hitting outburst was led by three hits apiece from senior Megan Beard (IF, Eveleth, Minn.) and freshman Summer Monsrud (OF, Bemidji, Minn.) Beard was one of four players honored in BSU’s “Senior Day” ceremonies in between games along with Anderson, Kayla Babinski (IF, Devils Lake, N.D.) and Courtney Loegering (OF, Blaine, Minn.).


Beavers host Golden Bears and Huskies in final home games of 2012

The Bemidji State University softball team will host Concordia University, St. Paul and St. Cloud State University this weekend at BSU Softball Field. Saturday’s games against the Golden Bears will commence at 12 and 2 p.m. Saturday will serve as “Senior Day” for Bemidji State. Seniors Courtney Anderson (RHP, Virginia, Minn.), Megan Beard (IF, Eveleth, Minn.) and Courtney Loegering (OF, Blaine, Minn.) will be honored along with junior Kayla Babinski (IF, Devils Lake, N.D.), who will graduate early. Sunday’s games against the Huskies are set for 12 and 2 p.m. start times.

BSU swept in NSIC doubleheader by Northern State

The Bemidji State University softball team fell in a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) games against Northern State University Wednesday at the Mocassin Creek Softball Complex in Aberdeen, S.D. The Beavers lost 9-1 in five innings in game one and fell 5-0 in game two to the Wolves. BSU falls to 9-26 (2-14 NSIC). Northern State improves to 18-20 (9-7 NSIC) with the doubleheader victory.


Beavers square off with Northern State in mid-week doubleheader

The Bemidji State University softball team will travel to Northern State University for a mid-week doubleheader Wed., April 11 at 2 and 4 p.m. at the Mocassin Creek Softball Complex in Aberdeen, S.D. The Beavers come into the weekend with a 9-24 (2-12 NSIC) mark. Northern State has a 16-20 (7-7 NSIC) record.


Anderson's two-hit shutout and Beard's bat guide BSU to split with UMD

The Bemidji State University softball team used a two-hit shutout from Courtney Anderson (Sr., RHP, Virginia, Minn.) and a clutch two-out base hit from Megan Beard (Sr., IF, Eveleth, Minn.) to drive in the game-winning run to defeat University of Minnesota Duluth 1-0 in game one of a doubleheader. The UMD bats were too much for the Beavers in game two as the Bulldogs picked up a 10-0 victory. The win in game one is the first victory for BSU over a UMD team since defeating Bulldogs 1-0 in 1999. It is the fourth win over UMD in the program’s 31 year history with the other two wins coming in 1991 and 1996. The Beavers are 9-24 (2-12 NSIC) after the split. UMD is now 27-17 (9-5 NSIC).


Bulldogs use three home runs to pick up sweep over BSU

The University of Minnesota Duluth used three home runs to ignite a doubleheader sweep against the Bemidji State University softball team Thursday afternoon at the BSU Softball Field. The Bulldogs picked up a 8-0 win in five innings in game one and an 8-0 victory in six innings in game two. BSU falls to 8-23 on the season. UMD improved to 26-16 with the wins. The games count as nonconference games for both teams.


BSU set for pair of doubleheaders against UMD Thursday and Friday

The Bemidji State University softball team will host University of Minnesota Duluth in a pair of doubleheaders Thurs., April 5 and Fri., April 6 at the BSU Softball Field. Thursday’s games will serve as nonconference games and will start at 2 and 4 p.m. and Friday’s contests will commence at 12 and 2 p.m. and will count as Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games. Thursday’s doubleheader was moved up from Saturday due to expected inclimate weather in Bemidji on Saturday. Friday’s games were moved up from an original start of 1 and 3 p.m. for the same reason.


Six-run outburst leads BSU softball to split with MSU Moorhead

Cassie MacArthur’s (Fr., RHP/1B, Cottage Grove, Minn.) double down the left field line cleared the bases to score three runners as the Bemidji State University softball team had a six-run outburst in the inning to help deliver a 6-1 victory over Minnesota State University, Moorhead in the first game of the doubleheader Tues., April 3 in Bemidji. In game two of the doubleheader, both teams played scoreless softball for 11 innings until the Dragons struck for one run in the top of the 12th to pick up a 1-0 extra-inning win over the Beavers. BSU is now 8-21 on the year and improves to 1-11 in the NSIC after ending a winless streak in conference play with the 6-1 victory.


Beavers look to snap conference skid against MSU Moorhead Tuesday

The Bemidji State University softball team will host Minnesota State University, Moorhead in a mid-week doubleheader Tues., April 3 at 2 and 4 p.m. at the BSU Softball Field. The Beavers come into Tuesday with a 7-20 mark and will look to get in the win column in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play as they enter the games with an 0-10 record in conference action. MSU Moorhead enters the doubleheader with a 5-20 mark (1-9 NSIC).


Beavers fall in conference doubleheader to Wayne State

Courtney Anderson (Sr., RHP, Virginia, Minn.) pitched a two-hit shutout through five innings in game two of a doubleheader but the Bemidji State University softball team fell 2-0 to Wayne State College (Neb.). The Beavers fell 6-1 in a contest earlier in the day against the Wildcats. BSU falls to 7-20 on the year and remain winless in the NSIC (0-10). Wayne State improves to 17-15 (3-7 NSIC).


BSU falls in doubleheader to No. 23 Augustana

The Bemidji State University softball team fell 4-1 and 9-1 Saturday afternoon with a pair of losses in a doubleheader against No. 23 Augustana College at Bowden Field. The Beavers fall to 7-18 (0-8 NSIC) on the season. The Vikings improve to 29-4 (7-1 NSIC) on the year.


BSU treks to No. 23 Augustana and Wayne State for NSIC contests

The Bemidji State University softball team will hit the road for NSIC doubleheaders against No. 23 Augustana College and Wayne State College (Neb.) this weekend. The Beavers open up the road stand Sat., March 31 at 12 p.m. against Augustana, with the second game slated for 2 p.m. They will continue the trip Sun., April 1 at 12 p.m. versus Wayne State, with the second contest set for a 2 p.m. start. The Beavers enter the weekend with a 7-16 (0-6 NSIC) mark.


Golden Eagles top Beavers in pair of extra inning affairs

The Bemidji State University softball team went into extra innings in both games of Wednesday’s conference doubleheader against University of Minnesota, Crookston but came up short in both as the Golden Eagles were able to get runs in the top of the eighth inning in both games. The Beavers fall to 7-16 (0-6 NSIC) with Wednesday’s losses. The Golden Eagles improve to 9-14 (3-3 NSIC) with the victories. Bemidji State gets a split with Minnesota, Crookston on the season as they picked up two wins against the Golden Eagles in Vadnais Heights earlier this season.

The Beavers are now 7-14 on the season after winnig 2-0 in game one over the Vikings and falling 6-2 in game two. Valley City State’s record now stands at 10-7 on the season. Courtney Anderson’s (Sr., RHP, Virginia, Minn.) two-hitter guided the Beavers in the game one win.

The Bemidji State University softball team fell in a doubleheader to No. 13 Minnesota State University, Mankato Sunday afternoon at the BSU Softball Field. An 11-run first inning outburst ignited a 12-0 game one win for the Mavericks while they took a 8-0 victory in game two of the day. The Beavers drop to 6-13 (0-4 NSIC). Minnesota State improves to 23-6 (3-1 NSIC).


Beavers fall in doubleheader to Mustangs to open NSIC slate

The Bemidji State University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to open its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference slate at home against Southwest Minnesota State University. The Beavers fell 8-0 with the game being called due to the mercy rule in the sixth inning of the first game and then were dropped 5-4 as the Mustangs scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning for the comeback win. BSU falls to 6-11 on the season with the loss. Southwest Minnesota State improves to 11-7 with the pair of victories.

The Bemidji State University softball team will open Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play this weekend at the BSU softball field with games against Southwest Minnesota State University and No. 13 Minnesota State University, Mankato. The weekend will open with games against the Mustangs Saturday at 2 and 4 p.m. and concluded with contests versus the Mavericks Sunday at 12 and 2 p.m.


Catching up with BSU softball: Summer Monsrud

We caught up with Bemidji State freshman outfielder Summer Monsrud this week as the softball team prepares to open its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference slate this weekend at the BSU softball field against Southwest Minnesota State University and No. 13 Minnesota State University, Mankato. Monsrud, a product of Bemidji High School, is the daughter of Eric Monsrud, a former BSU men's hockey and baseball player who is the current color analyst for the Beaver men's hockey games on Lakeland Public Television. The younger Monsrud has gotten off to a strong start this season from the lead-off position as she is hitting .349 in 15 games this seaosn. She currently leads the team with eight runs scored and four stolen bases.

The Bemidji State softball team picked up a split with a 3-0 win over Saint Vincent College out of Latrobe, Penn. and a 9-8 exhibition loss to Grand Rapids Community College out of Grand Rapids, Mich at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla. Wednesday. The Beavers improve to 6-5 with the win over the Bearcats that was led by Courtney Anderson’s (Sr. RHP, VIrginia, Minn.) no hitter.

he Bemidji State University softball team picked up a split Tuesday with a 6-1 win over Post University, a Division II school out of Waterbury, Conn., and then fell 7-0 to No. 24 Grand Valley State University at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla. The Beavers are now 5-5 on the season and tie their season win total from last year.


Beavers fall 11-1 to Georgian Court and 4-0 to West Virginia Wesleyan

The Bemidji State University softball team fell in two games this afternoon at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla. The Beavers fell 11-1 to Georgian Court University in five innings to open the day. In the second game, BSU put up a fight against West Virginia Wesleyan College, but fell 3-0 to the Bobcats who are receving votes in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II poll. BSU falls to 4-4 on the season with the losses.

BSU softball to host fish fry at American Legion Friday evening

The Bemidji State University softball team will host a fish fry Fri., Feb. 24 at the American Legion at 217 Minnesota Ave. NW in Bemidji from 5-7 p.m. as a fundraiser to help pay for its spring break trip in Clermont, Fla. March 4-9. Ticket prices are $13 and plates will include fish filet, baked potato, sald, colesaw and a vegetable. Homemade deserts will also be provided.


NSIC honors seven Beavers with Myles Brand All-Academic With Distinction award

Bemidji State picked 13th in preseason softball poll

The Bemidji State University softball team was picked to finish 13th in the 2012 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Softball Coaches’ poll released Thursday afternoon. Kayla Babinski (Jr., IF, Devil’s Lake, N.D.) and Courtney Anderson (Sr., P, Virginia, Minn.) were picked as BSU’s 2012 NSIC Players to Watch.


Supinski joins Bemidji State staff as head softball coach

Bemidji State University Director of Athletics Dr. Rick Goeb today announced the hiring of Rick Supinski (sah-PIN-skee), formerly of Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, as the 18th head coach of the Beavers’ softball program.
