BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University softball program announced four student-athletes to its 2016 signing class, Wednesday. Payton Williams (IF/OF, Becker, Minn.), Olivia Tucker (P, Grantsburg, Wis.), Alexis Derrick (C/3B, New Richmond, Wis.), and Rachel Burkland (UTL/P, Glendale, Ariz.) all signed National Letters of Intent or offers of admission to join the BSU softball program in 2017.

All signees are contingent upon admission to BSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.

Becker High School • Becker, Minn.

Becker High School: Williams is a four-year letter-winner for the school’s softball program… Voted the team MVP in 2015… Two-time All-Section award winner and two-time All-Conference member… Member of Becker High School’s Honor Roll.

Head coach Rick Supinski on Williams: “Payton is a great all-around athlete. She brings the ability to play both middle infield and all outfield positions at a high level, which gives us great versatility with her.”

Personal: Daughter of Jimmy and Dana Williams born June 8, 1998…Plans to major in Sports medicine with a minor in coaching at BSU.

Olivia Tucker • Pitcher • 5-9

Grantsburg High School • Grantsburg, Wis.

At Grantsburg High School: Tucker was selected to the WLC All-Conference Team in 2014 and 2015… Named to Wisconsin’s 2015 All-State team… Key member of the Pirates that made it to the State Tournament in 2013 and 2014… Competed in Softball, Volleyball and Basketball… Three-time All-Conference in volleyball and voted the team captain in 2014 and 2015… All-Conference in Basketball during the 2013-14 season… Member of Grantsburg High School National Honor Society.

Supinski on Tucker: “Olivia will be a powerful addition to our pitching staff. She has a wonderful riseball that will anchor her array of pitches in the circle.”

Personal: Daughter of Duke and Roxanne Tucker born Aug. 4, 1998…Plans to major in special education at BSU.

New Richmond High School • New Richmond, Wis.

At New Richmond High School: Derrick was selected to the MBC All-Conference Team in 2014… Rookie of the Year in 2013… Led the Tigers in batting average in 2014 and 2015… Voted team captain in 2015 and 2016…Member of New Richmond’s Honor Roll.

Supinski on Derrick: “Lexi comes to Bemidji with a great arm from behind the plate and a swing to match. She has shown us a great work ethic as she prepares for her college career.”

Personal: Daughter of Bob and Judy Derrick born April 7, 1998…Intends to major in accounting at BSU.

Rachel Burkland • Utility / Pitcher • 5-7

Deer Valley High School • Glendale, Ariz.

At Deer Valley HS: A four-year letter-winner for the softball program…Member of Deer Valley High School’s Honor Roll.

Supinski on Burkland: “Rachel is one of those players that brings a wide range of talent to the team. She will be able to play multiple positions for us, including earning time in the pitcher’s circle.”

Personal: Daughter of Bob and Claudia Burkland born Sept. 26, 1997… Plans to study elementary education at BSU.

Bemidji State finished the 2015 season with an 18-30 record. The Beaver had the most wins since 1998 (25) and BSU will return 11 players from last season’s team.
