CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bemidji State University softball team finished its spring break trip with a split against Saint Michael’s College and Concordia-Ann Arbor University, Friday. The Beavers began the final day of the tournament by defeating Saint Michael’s, 5-1 but then fell to Concordia-Ann Arbor, 7-2.

Saint Michael’s 1, Bemidji State 5

Three different Beavers hit home runs in the first game of the day to extend Bemidji State’s winning streak to six games.

The Purple Knights began the game by scoring their only run of the game in the second inning, but the Knights didn’t hold the lead for long after the Beavers responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Freshman Kelsey McAllister began the scoring by hammering her fifth home run of the season that scored two and then Alayna Krejci hit an RBI single to put BSU ahead, 3-1.

The Beavers then extend their lead to four from solo home runs by Lyndsey Peterson and Jessica Yost in the third and fifth innings, respectively.

Freshman Rochelle Koshalek was outstanding in the circle and pitched five innings and allowed just one run on three hits with five strikeouts to earn her second win of the season. Senior Jenna Massingill came in relief and pitched two innings allowing just one hit with two strikeouts.

McAllister finished the game by going 2-for-3 with a home run, double and two RBI to lead the Beavers.

Bemidji State 2, Concordia-Ann Arbor 7

After the first two innings were scoreless for each team, Bemidji State got on the scoreboard first in the third when Erin Robson hit her first home run of the season to put BSU up 1-0. Another solo home run by McAllister in the fourth inning extended BSU’s lead to 2-0, but the Cardinals responded with a five-run fifth inning to take the lead over the Beavers.

Concordia-Ann Arbor didn’t look back from then on and after adding two more runs, the Cardinals came out on top 7-2.

Junior Jessica Yost earns her first loss of the year after going four innings allowing five earned runs off of five hits to drop her record to 11-1 on the season.
