Beavers drop two at Minot State

MINOT, N.D. – The Bemidji State University softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader with Minot State University Tuesday afternoon. The Beavers (20-15, 10-10 NSIC) fell in game one to the Beavers of Minot State (19-14, 11-9 NSIC) 4-2 and in game two, 5-3.

Bemidji State 2, Minot State 4

Minot State used four runs throughout game one’s first four innings to hold off the Beavers 4-2 at Herb Parker Stadium.

MiSU tallied one run in the first, one run in the third and two runs in the fourth to quickly go up 4-0. The Beavers rallied late however, and scored in the top of the fifth with an RBI single from Lexie Derrick and pulled within two when Kelsey McAllister blasted a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning.

Bemidji State had a great opportunity to pull ahead in the top of the seventh inning after loading the bases with the inning’s first three batters. However, Minot State’s defense held strong and sent down three straight batters for the Beavers to end the game.

BSU made costly errors in the game and Minot State capitalized with two runs off of three errors.

McAllister and Derrick led the Beavers at the plate after both tallied two hits in the game and one RBI.

Senior Jessica Yost earned a rare loss in the circle after pitching all six innings giving up two earned runs to fall to 17-5 on the season. She struck out 11 in the game and only had two walks while giving up eight hits.

Bemidji State 3, Minot State 5

Bemidji State started game two by scoring in the top of the first when Alexandra hit an RBI single to put the Beavers ahead 1-0.

However, Minot State took the lead from BSU in the bottom of the third with two runs of its own. BSU responded in the top of the fourth with a two-run home run by Brooke Phillips for the 3-2 lead but gave up the lead for the final time in the bottom of the sixth after a bases loaded double gave Minot State the 5-3 victory.

McAllister pitched all six innings in the circle for BSU and allowed nine hits and four earned runs to fall to 1-5 this season. Jessica Burlingame, Ripka, and Alayna Krejci each tallied two hits in the game.

BSU will look to rebound when the face Mayville State College for a scrimmage in Mayville, N.D. before hosting Wayne State College and Augustana College Saturday and Sunday.
