BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team wraps up the home portion of its 2017 schedule this weekend by hosting Wayne State College (Neb.) and Augustana University (S.D.) April 22 and 23, respectively.
The Beavers (20-15, 10-10 NSIC) will honor their four seniors before facing the Wildcats (11-33, 5-15 NSIC) Saturday, April 22 for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
BSU will then host the Vikings (31-11, 16-4 NSIC) Sunday, April 23 for the final home series slated to start at noon.
Before hosting the Wildcats and Vikings, the Beavers will travel to Mayville, N.D., to face Mayville State College in a scrimmage, Thursday, April 20.
Scouting Wayne State
The Wildcats enter the weekend tied for 13th in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference standings with a 5-15 league record. Wayne State split its home series with Upper Iowa University, Tuesday, April 18 in its last action.
As a team, the Wildcats are batting .296 in conference play, ninth in the NSIC, and have scored 87 runs, tied for BSU for eighth. Five Wildcats are batting over .300 for WSC with Monique Alyea leading the team with a .336 average. Katelyn Wobken follows by hitting .331 and has 20 RBI while Melanie Alyea leads the team with 22 RBI and has 11 doubles.
In the circle is where the Wildcats falter and have a 6.07 team ERA, last in the NSIC. Nataliah Hopkins has spent the most time in the circle for WSC leading the team with 169.2 innings pitched. She is 9-18 on the season with a 5.07 ERA and 12 complete games.
The Vikings enter the weekend third in the NSIC standings with a 16-4 conference record but split its home series with Winona State University, April 18.
Augustana is one of the top offensive teams in the conference and rank second in the NSIC with a .342 team batting average. The Vikings have scored the third most runs (249) in the league this season and boasts the league’s best on base percentage at .410.
Sarah Kennedy leads Augie at the plate and is second in the NSIC with a .511 batting average. The Vikings have six batters who average over .300 at the plate. Kennedy leads the team in RBI (46), home runs (12) and doubles (22) this season.
Lexy Pederson leads the Vikings in the circle this season and in 23 appearances has posted a 16-4 record with a 1.70 ERA. Olivia Wolters is Augie’s number two pitcher and has a 13-6 record in 26 appearances and a 2.98 ERA.
