BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University Head Softball Coach Rick Supinski has announced the hiring of Meggie Reitz as assistant coach. The recent University of Montana graduate begins her collegiate coaching career after a playing career as a right-handed pitcher for the NCAA Division I Griz in 2015 and 2016.
Since graduation Reitz jumped into the coaching ranks, serving as assistant coach for the Sentinel High School Softball program in Missoula, Mont. Under her guidance, the Spartans went 14-12 overall and made a run to the 2017 Montana High School Association Class AA State Tournament.
As a collegiate player, the Billings, Mont. native made 44 appearances in the circle, which included 18 starts. She posted two complete games and a shutout for the Griz and allowed 147 hits in 116.1 innings of work with 65 strike outs. She went 8-12 overall and was 3-8 as a senior on a team that was 29-27 overall and 14-7 in Big Sky play in just its second year of existence.
Prior to transferring to Montana for her final two seasons, she went 14-9 with a 3.50 ERA in more than 40 appearances at Williston State College, where she earned All-American status in 2014. Reitz led the team in strike outs each season, fanning 89 batters in 96.1 innings as a sophomore and 70 in 83 innings during her freshman campaign. In addition, she hit .256 from the plate.
Reitz graduate from Montana with a bachelor’s degree in communication in 2016. She also earned an associate degree from Williston State College in 2014.
Reitz replaces Nicole Sidor, who completed her graduate assistantship with the program in the spring of 2017.
The Bemidji State Softball program is coming off a 2017 campaign during which it went 28-19 and made a post-season run to place third in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament.
