Bemidji State softball splits second day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bemidji State University softball team split day two in Clermont, Fla., by falling to Northwood University, 5-1, and rebounding against Post University, 8-2 at the Spring Break Tournament, Sunday.

Bemidji State 1, Northwood 5
The Beavers totaled just three hits against the Timberwolves and fell 5-1 in the game. Northwood scored five runs through the first five innings while the Beavers’ only run came in the top of the seventh when Jessica Burlingame hit an RBI single.

Freshman Sami Dullum pitched 3.1 innings allowing four earned runs off of eight hits while Rochelle Koshalek and Rachel Burkland pitched 1.2 and 1.0 innings, respectively.

Post 2, Bemidji State 8
Bemidji State got its run support in the second game of the day by scoring a season-high eight runs. The Eagles started the scoring in the top of the first inning with two runs but the Beavers answered back to take the lead 3-2 in the bottom half of the inning with three runs off of two errors by Post. BSU then scored three more runs in the bottom of the second when Makayla Pagel hit a three-run homerun followed by two runs in the fourth with a two RBI double from senior Alexandra Ripka.

Sophomore Olivia Tucker responded with six scoreless innings after the first inning to earn her first victory of the season. She gave up just five hits and both of Post’s runs were unearned while striking out four.

The Beavers move to 3-7 on the season and continue play at the Spring Break Tournament tomorrow by facing Indiana University-South Bend and Clarion University
