Beaver Softball splits day three of spring break trip

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Bemidji State University softball team split day three of its spring break trip in Kissimmee, Fla., by defeating Post University, 4-2, but fell to Dominican College, 2-0 Tuesday night. The Beavers improve to 9-5 on the season and are 4-2 in Florida.

Bemidji State 4, Post 2
Bemidji State totaled just two hits in its game against Post and scored all four of its runs on a walk, hit by pitch, fielder’s choice and a passed ball to defeat the Eagles 4-2 in the first game of the day Tuesday.

Senior Jessica Burlingame started the scoring by scoring from third on a passed ball after leading the game with a triple while senior Kelsey McAllister drove in another run after driving in Brooke Phillips on a fielder’s choice. BSU then extended its lead to 4-0 in the second inning when Phillips was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Rochelle Koshalek while McAllister drew a walk in the following at bat.

The Eagles made it a two-run game in the sixth inning by scoring off of two RBI singles.

Junior Megan Pehrson pitched 5.1 innings and earned her second win of the season to improve to 2-1 after allowing just two runs off of five hits and tied a career high with nine strikeouts. Sophomore Stephi Dullum came in to pitch 1.2 innings in relief and earned her first save after allowing just one hit and two strikeouts.

Dominican 2, Bemidji State 0
The Beavers were held to just two hits against the Chargers in the second game of the day and were defeated 2-0. BSU and Dominican were scoreless through most of the game but the Chargers broke through in the fifth and sixth innings with runs in each inning.

Stephi Dullum pithed six innings in the circle for the Beavers and allowed just the two runs off of nine hits while also earning three strikeouts while freshman Kaidron McClafferty came in to pitch one inning in relief and didn’t allow a hit.
