BEMIDJI, Minn. - It seems as though the Bemidji State University’s senior class just finished participating in the ceremonies surrounding graduation, but in the ever-present world of collegiate sports the recent calendar flip to August can only mean one thing--the 2008 fall athletic season is just around the corner. Monday, Aug. 11, is check-in-day for the BSU volleyball program as the team gears up for its 2008 training camp.
Monday has been set aside for players to check into their preseason housing, complete paperwork and meet as a team. Tuesday (Aug. 12) the Beavers officially get practice underway as they will practice twice daily for the first two weeks practicing from 9-11:30 in the morning and 2-4:30 in the afternoon. The practice marks the first of their 22-practice camp leading up to their first game on Aug. 29 as the Beavers will play Newman University at 3 p.m. at the Las Vegas Blast in Las Vegas, Nev.
BSU will break camp Aug. 24 and will begin its normal 3-5 p.m. practice schedule Aug. 25.
Bemidji State, under the direction of second-year head coach Laurie Bitter, returns seven letter winners from a 2007 squad that posted a 10-17 overall record and a 6-12 mark in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
