BEMIDJI, Minn. –-- Bemidji State University head women's basketball coach Mike Power has announced that Colleen Boell (Burnsville, Minn.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Beavers in 2005-06. Boell, a 5-9 point guard/off-guard, is the first to recruit to sign with BSU for the 2005-06 season.
"Colleen is versatile player. Her ball-handeling abilities allow her to play the point guard position but she will also be able to give us depth at the off-guard and possibly play the three spot if we need it," commented Power. "She will kind of be a three-in-one player for us."
Boell, a senior at Burnsville Senior High School, is a proven leader with a wealth of experience at the prep level. She is embarking on her fourth year as a starter and third season as the team's captain. The senior readies for her final prep campaign after averaging 12.2 points and 6.2 assists for the Blaze as a junior. In her career she has averaged close to 10 points, 4.5 assists and 2 steals per game while three times garnering All-Conference accolades and being named as the team's Most Valuable Player twice. In addition, he was recently named as one of five girl's basketball players to watch in the South Metro by the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Burnsville Senior High School girls basketball coach Andy Meinhardt said about Boell, "She is a competitor who wants the ball at the end of the game and wants to make the big defensive stop."
Boell is also a three-time starter on the Burnsville Senior High School softball team.
The BSU women's basketball team is 0-1 an will continue its 2004-05 campaign tonight (Nov. 18) when it hosts Mayville State University. Opening tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. at BSU's Memorial Hall Gymnasium.
