Hebrink and Rendle garner Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week honors
BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University’s Anna Hebrink (Sr., G, 5-8, Austin, Minn.) and Sam Rendle (Fr., D, 5-9, 170, Grand Rapids, Minn.) have been named Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week after recording outstanding athletic accomplishments during the week of Dec. 28-Jan. 4.

Hebrink led the Bemidji State women’s basketball team with 16 points Jan. 3 as the Beavers were defeated by NSIC foe University of Minnesota Duluth, 99-76. The senior was 5-of-12 (.416) from the floor, which included a 2-for-7 (.286) performance from beyond the arc.  Hebrink was a perfect 4-for-4 (1.00) from the free-throw line and added a team-high five assists to accompany a rebound and a steal.

This week’s Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week award marks the first of Hebrink’s career, while it stands as the third time a member of the BSU women’s basketball has been selected for the award in 2010-11.  She follows the Nov. 24 pick, Ellie Wessling (Fr., F, 5-10, Winstead, Minn.) and Colleen McKay (Sr., C, 6-0, Barnum, Minn.) who was selected for the honor Dec. 15.

Rendle, was one of four BSU men’s hockey players to be named to the All-Mariucci Classic squad after leading the Beavers to a 2-0 record and the event title Dec. 31-Jan. 1.  The freshman figured in on three of the Beavers’ six goals in the classic from his blue line position.  He was credited with an assist on the BSU’s second goal in a  3-2 victory versus Ferris State Friday before registering his first collegiate multi-point effort with two helpers, including an assist on Jordan George’s (So., F, Madison, Wis.) game-winner, in Saturday’s win over No. 14 Union.  In addition, he blocked two shots to help keep the nation’s fourth-ranked scoring offense at bay and finished with a +3 plus/minus rating.

This also marks the first Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week award of Rendle’s career, while he is the fourth member of the BSU men’s hockey team to be selected for the individual honor.

The Bemidji State men’s hockey team, which has won five of its last seven contests and is 6-10-1 on the season, rekindles one of its most storied rivalries this weekend with a trip to Huntsville, Ala. to face the Chargers of Ala.-Huntsville.  The two-game set featuring former College Hockey America (CHA) foes is set to get underway at 7:05 p.m. Friday and will conclude after a 3:05 p.m. affair Saturday at the Von Braun Center.

Hebrink and the BSU women’s basketball team, which owns 4-7 mark overall and is 1-6 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play, returns to the friendly confines of the BSU Gymnasium this weekend for a pair of conference contests.  The Beavers host No. 21 Augustana College Saturday at 2 p.m. and wrap up the weekend with No. 9 Wayne State College at 2 p.m. Sunday.
