Women's Basketball adds McKee to 2011-12 signing class
BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University women’s basketball program has announced the signing of Allison McKee (G, New Brighton, Minn.) to a National Letter of Intent. McKee joins Jessi Corrick (G, Grand Rapids, Minn.), Paige Tompkins (F/C, Milnor, N.D.) and Erica Trabing (G, Prior Lake, Minn.) as members of its 2011-12 signing class.

All signees are contingent upon admission to BSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.

“I think one of the things Allison can add to next year’s team is that she is a fantastic shooter,” said BSU head coach Mike Curfman. “Being the daughter of a coach she has spent a lot of time in the gym. I think Allison has a chance to be a very good player for us. She is more than just a shooter. She sees the floor well, is a smart player and is sound defensively. I am excited that Allison is joining our program.”

McKee joins the Beavers after helping lead Mounds View High School to a 90-21 mark in her four years as a member of the girls basketball program. The 5-9 guard averaged 10.3 points per game on her way to an All-Suburban East Conference selection as a senior. Last season, she led the Mustangs in steals, assists and three-pointers. McKee also earned two varsity letters in track and field and one in volleyball.

She is the daughter of Bill and Andrea McKee. McKee was born May 9, 1993 in St. Paul, Minn. Her father was her high school coach but recently accepted the head women’s basketball position at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minn. Bill McKee was a member of four conference championship basketball teams at St. Thomas University before playing professionally in Germany.

The four signees will join a young roster that has a number of returnees heading into the 2011-12 campaign for the BSU women’s basketball progam. The Beavers lose two seniors in Anna Hebrink (Austin, Minn.) and center Colleen McKay (Barnum, Minn.). Returning are three players that started over half of last year’s games in junior Samantha Baldwin (G, St. Thomas, N.D.), sophomore Jessie Althoff (F/C, Becker, Minn.) and freshman Melissa Borstner (G, East Bethel, Minn.).

The trio is joined by several players who contributed key minutes for BSU last season. Morgan Lee (Fr., G, Hayward, Wis.) was one of BSU’s most effective offensive players down the stretch as she finished the season averaging 7.8 points per game and was the team’s leading three-point shooter connecting at a 36.2 percent clip. Fellow freshmen Kate Warmack (C, East Grand Forks, Minn.) and Ellie Wessling (G/F, Winsted, Minn.) also showed improvement throughout the season. The Beavers also return sophomore Shannon Thompson (G, Rosemount, Minn.) who proved clutch in games against Southwest Minnesota State University and Minnesota State University near the end of the season. Junior Sydney Epema (G, Crookston, Minn.), who served as co-captain last season will look to build on strong games against Upper Iowa University and Winona State University to end the 2010-11 season. The Beavers also return junior Taylor Davis (F, Crookston, Minn.) and redshirt freshman Tiffany Van Haaften (G, Chaska, Minn.), as well as redshirt Emily Kaus (C, Eagan, Minn.) who missed all of last season due to injury.
