Wolves down Beavers 73-60 in NSIC home opener
BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University women’s basketball team fell 73-60 to Northern State University Friday night at BSU Gymnasium. The Wolves used 23 points from Alison Kusler to take down BSU. The Beavers had a strong first half as they were down only four (33-29) to their foes from Aberdeen, S.D but struggled from the field in the second half as they were unable to answer Northern State. BSU falls to 5-4 (3-2 NSIC) on the season. Northern State improves to 7-3 (3-2 NSIC).

The Beavers had four players score in double figures led by Samantha Baldwin (Sr., G, St. Thomas, N.D.) 16 points on five-of-eight shooting. Baldwin was six-of-six from the charity stripe to guide BSU in the one area they didn’t struggle. BSU was 17-of-19 from the free throw line as a team. Ellie Weslling (So., G/F,   Winsted, Minn.) added 14 points, while Morgan Lee (So., G, Hayward, Wis.) tallied 11 points and Shannon Thompson (Jr., G, Rosemount, Minn.) had 10 on the game. BSU shot 20-of-54 from the field on the game for 37 percent. BSU was dominated on the boards 40-24.

Kate Warmack (So., C, East Grand Forks, Minn.), who averaged 14.0 points and 10.5 rebounds last weekend in games against Winona State University and Upper Iowa University was held to two points and five boards.

Kusler paced the Wolves as she was six-of-11 from the field and eight-of-10 from the charity stripe. Sarah Hintz added 14 points while Mikayla Barondeau and Jenna Higgins each had 10 on the game. Northern State was 26-of-53 from the field for 49.1 percent. Barondeau led NSU with seven board while Kusler and Emily Becken pitched in with six boards. Becken also had 10 assists on the game.

The Beavers fall to 8-46 all-time against Northern State as Bemidji State has lost the last 11 games with the Wolves dating back to Jan. 11, 2008.

Bemidji State will look to get back on the winning track tomorrow as they host University of Mary at 4 p.m. at BSU Gymnasium.
