Bemidji State lands 14 on 2013 Academic All-NSIC Team

Bemidji State University had 14 student-athletes selected to the 2013 Winter Academic All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Team, announced by the league office today.


2012-13 Season Review

During the 2012-2013 season the Bemidji State University women’s basketball team posted 11-16 overall record, a two-win improvement from last season, and 7-15 mark in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Beavers’ record put them 13th in the conference, and eighth in the NSIC North Division.


Beaver Pride names Warmack and Walters Athletes of the Week

Bemidji State University student-athletes Kate Warmack (C, 6-2, Jr., East Grand Forks, Minn.) and Mason Walters (F, 6-7, Sr., Milton, Wis.) have been named Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week after recording outstanding athletic performances during the week of Feb. 25-March 3.


Beavers wrap up season with 94-77 loss at MSU in NSIC Tournament

The Bemidji State University women's basketball team fell to No. 17 Minnesota State University, Mankato 94-77 in a first round Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference/Sanford Health Women’s Basketball Tournament game Wednesday in Mankato, Minn. The loss ended the 2012-13 season for the Beavers and dropped their overall record to 11-16.


Beavers travel to Minnesota State for NSIC Tournament

The Bemidji State women’s basketball team (11-15; 7-15 NSIC, 6-8 NSIC North) will serve as the No. 7 seed in the NSIC North Division in the NSIC/Sanford Health Women’s Basketball Tournament. BSU travels to the No. 2 seed in the NSIC South, No. 17 Minnesota State University, Mankato (22-4; 18-4 NSIC, 11-3 NSIC South) Feb. 27 for a 6 p.m. tilt in the first round.


Brackets for NSIC Tournament announced; Men host WSC, Women at MSU

The brackets are set for both the men’s and women’s basketball Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference/Sanford Health Basketball Tournaments, set to begin Feb. 27. The men’s team will host Wayne State College at 7 p.m. Wednesday at BSU Gymnasium, while the women travel to Minnesota State University, Mankato for a 6 p.m. tilt.


Beavers suffer 73-48 loss against SCSU in season finale

The Bemidji State University women's basketball team fell 73-48 to St. Cloud State University Saturday in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game. The contest, played on senior night, wrapped up regular season play and was the last collegiate home game for seniors Emily Kaus (C, Eagan, Minn.) and Shannon Thompson (G, Rosemount, Minn.).


Beavers fall to Minnesota Duluth 85-56 at home

The Bemidji State University women's basketball team fell to University of Minnesota Duluth Friday, 85-56 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game at BSU Gymnasium. The Beavers' overall record dropped to 11-14 and 7-14 in the NSIC. Junior guard Morgan Lee (Hayward, Wis.) led the team in scoring with 18 points and five rebounds.


Beavers host UMD and SCSU in regular season finale

The Bemidji State women’s basketball team (11-13; 7-13 NSIC, 6-6 NSIC North) puts a wrap on the regular season Feb. 22-23 with a pair of NSIC home games versus University of Minnesota Duluth (12-12; 9-11 NSIC, 7-5 NSIC North) and St. Cloud State University (17-7; 13-7 NSIC, 10-2 NSIC North).

Sophomore Melissa Youngblut (G/F, Davenport, Iowa) knocked down a buzzer-beater from 3-point range to lift the Bemidji State women's basketball team to a 76-73 victory at University of Mary Saturday in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game in Bismarck, N.D.


Thompson leads 3-point attack in 81-70 victory at Minot State

The Bemidji State women’s basketball team knocked down a season-high 12 3-pointers, six of which came off the hands of senior guard Shannon Thompson (Rosemount, Minn.), to lift it to an 81-70 victory at Minot State University Friday in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game in Minot, N.D. Thompson posted a season-high 24 points.


Final NSIC road trip on docket for Beavers at MISU and U-Mary

The Bemidji State women’s basketball team (9-13; 5-13 NSIC, 4-6 NSIC North) concludes a four-game road trip Feb. 15-16 with a pair of NSIC contests at Minot State University (11-11; 7-11 NSIC, 3-7 NSIC North) and University of Mary (15-9; 10-8 NSIC, 5-5 NSIC North). For the past three seasons, junior guard Morgan Lee's name has been blasted through the BSU Gymnasium public address system after knocking down 3-pointer after 3-pointer, but echoing in the rafters is the name of her father, David Lee.

Bemidji State inducts 2013 class into Athletic Hall of Fame

Bemidji State University inducted seven individuals and three teams into its Athletics Hall of Fame Saturday as part of the University’s Hall of Fame Weekend. This year's Hall of Fame inductees include: Brian Carleton, Laurie (Peterson) Gross, David Lee and Elizabeth Mulvihill; the newest member of the Alumni Coaching Achievement Award Joan (Campbell) Anderson and the 2013 John S. Glas Honorary Letter Winners, Jim and Nancy Bensen.

The University of Sioux Falls scored 12 unanswered points in overtime to earn an 82-70 victory over the Bemidji State women's basketball team Saturday at he BSU Gymnasium.


Beavers take down SMSU 57-52

The Bemidji State University women’s basketball team defeated Southwest Minnesota State University Friday 57-52 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game. The win brought the Beavers’ overall record to 9-10 and 5-10 NSIC. Junior guard Lanae Rash (Milwaukee, Wis.) led the team in scoring with 26 points.

BSU and the NSIC present “It’s a Slam Dunk—Don’t drive Drunk” Feb. 1-2

Late on a Saturday night in July of 2012, a drunk driver swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with a car carrying Southwest Minnesota State’s head men’s basketball coach Brad Bigler, his wife, his wife’s grandmother and his five-month old son, Drake. Drake was killed in the crash. The driver of the other car had two previous drunk driving arrests in 2000 and 2005.


One-on-One with senior center Emily Kaus

The collegiate basketball career of senior Emily Kaus isn’t the prototypical story of a four-year student-athlete, but she has made the best of her time on the Bemidji State women’s basketball team. The center missed a season due to injury and won’t be cashing in her redshirt year, as she is on track to graduate in May.

Junior Kate Warmack (C, East Grand Forks, Minn.) led the team in scoring with a total of 16 points and eight rebounds.

Her unselfish play, ability to take care of the basketball and tenacious defense has her set-up to be on BSU’s career assist and steal lists when her time is done in the green and white.

Lee garners NSIC Player of the Week award

Junior Morgan Lee (G, Hayward, Wis.) went 8-for-15 from 3-point land, en route to a career-high 32 points to guide the Bemidji State University women's basketball team to a 85-67 victory at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Falls, Iowa Tuesday. The win hands the Beavers a 4-0 start to the 2012-13 season, marking the first 4-0 start since the 1974-75 squad started 13-0.


Beavers travel to Mount Mercy in nonconference finale

The Bemidji State women’s basketball team was idle last weekend and will have fresh legs for the Nov. 20 battle at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa after an 11-day gap between contests. The Beavers will take to the court against the Mustangs at 5:30 p.m.


Curfman inks four during NCAA early signing period

Bemidji State University head women's basketball coach Mike Curfman announced his NCAA early signing period class Thursday, as he inked four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to play for the Beavers beginning the 2013-14 season. Curfman has signed 21 student-athletes during the early signing period in his eight seasons at BSU.

One-on-One with junior Ellie Wessling

Junior Ellie Wessling has been a consistent scorer off the bench for the Beavers in her first two seasons. Her sophomore season she saw time in all 27 games with seven starts and finished fifth on the team in scoring (7.9 ppg), while averaging 20.6 minutes per game.


Beavers survive late surge by Mayville State, win 85-77

The Bemidji State women's basketball team defeated nonconference opponent Mayville State 85-77 Friday night. The Beavers now improve to 3-0 on the season while the Comets fall to 5-2.

The Bemidji State University women's basketball team finds itself in a similar situation as last weekend, playing host to a nonconference opponent. Nov. 9, the Beavers look to face Mayville State University out of Mayville, N.D. The contest will mark the team’s third of four nonconference games in 2012-13 and its third straight home game.


Rash and Crosby earn Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week laurels

One-on-One with Freshman Guard Erica Trabing

The Bemidji State women’s basketball team has its own political expert on the roster. A political science major, redshirt freshman Erica Trabing is thriving in the presidential election year. Her enjoyment of politics was planted at a young age and really started to grow during high school. Now she has taken that interest and turned into an academic major, with hopes of taking that degree and pursing a career.


Women's Basketball completes sweep over Lakehead, win 79-67

The Bemidji State University women's basketball team defeated Lakehead University Saturday night to complete the two game sweep on the weekend. The Beavers now improve to 2-0 in non-conference play and look to face Mayville State Nov. 9.


Beavers defeat Lakehead behind Rash's 24 points

The Bemidji State University women's basketball team defeated Lakehead University (Ontario) 79-75 Friday night in the regular season and home opener for the Beavers in 2012-13. The Beavers were guided by newcomer Lanae Rash (Jr., G, Milwaukee, Wis.), who scored a game-high 24 points, eight rebounds and five assists.


Beavers fall 76-67 in exhibition at North Dakota

The Bemidji State University women’s basketball team traveled to Grand Forks, N.D. and fell 76-67 in an exhibition game against NCAA Division I University of North Dakota Thursday. Newcomer Lanae Rash (G, Milwaukee, Wis.) guided the Beavers in her debut with the green and white with 23 points, five rebounds and four assists.


Women's basketball season preview; Beavers begin season Thursday

The Bemidji State women's basketball team travels to Grand Forks, N.D. Nov. 1 for a 7 p.m. exhibition game against University of North Dakota before it hosts Lakehead University out of Thunder Bay, Ontario to open the 2012-13 season Nov. 2-3. Beaver women's basketball begins offical practice for 2012-13 season

Men's and women's basketball begins practice Oct. 15

Basketball season is upon us. The Bemidji State University men's and women's basketball programs open the 2012-13 season Oct. 15 with its first official practice. The men's basketball team will practice 1-3 p.m. Monday and for the rest of the fall semester, while the women will hold the 5-7 p.m. time slot.


Everyone wins at the BSU Sara Labraaten Run/Walk for Women

The Bemidji State/Sara Labraaten Run/Walk for Women kicked off the Homecoming events Saturday morning as family, friends and alumni supported women's athletics at BSU with the fourth annual gathering. Nearly 100 people participated in the event to raise nearly $5,000 for women's scholarships at BSU.


Curfman announces 2012-13 schedule

Bemidji State head women’s basketball coach Mike Curfman has announced the team’s 2012-13 schedule. The campaign includes an exhibition at University of North Dakota, three home nonconference games and the new 16-team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schedule.


Oakland hired as women’s basketball assistant coach

Bemidji State University women’s basketball head coach Mike Curfman today announced the hiring of Abby Oakland as an assistant coach for the women’s basketball program. Oakland, who’s primary responsibility will be to oversee the recruiting process, is familiar with the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference after a four-year playing career and a two-year stint as a graduate assistant coach in the league.


Girls basketball camp set for July 22-25
