Buerkle and Read named Bemidji State Student-Athletes of the Year

Bemidji State University’s Kristi Buerkle (Sr., Stacy, Minn.) and Matt Read (Sr., Ilderton, Ontario) were named as the 2010-11 Bemidji State University Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Year, tonight at the BSU Student-Athlete Appreciation Banquet Thursday at Sanford Center. In addition, Mackenzie Haupert (Fr., Andover, Minn.) James Ellisor (Jr., F, Glendale, Ariz.) were selected BSU’s 2010-11 Female and Male Newcomers of the Year.


Buerkle earns NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction award

Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Commissioner Butch Raymond today announced that Bemidji State University’s Kristi Buerkle (Sr., Stacy, Minn.), Alysha Domiano (Sr., Dayton, Minn.), Colleen McKay (Sr., Barnum, Minn.), Jenny Stromberg (Sr., Elk River, Minn.) and Lindsey Weyer (Sr., Loyal, Wis.) have been selected as recipients of the second annual NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award.


Bemidji State cross country team honored for excellence in the classroom

The Bemidji State University cross country team has been selected as a United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II All-Academic Cross Country Team in a recent announcement from the organization’s national office. BSU was one of 107 teams from across the country recognized for the honor.


Bemidji State lands 31 on Fall Academic All-NSIC Team

Bemidji State University had 31 student-athletes selected to the 2010 Fall Academic All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Team, announced by the league office today.


BSU places 20th at NCAA Central Region Championship

Kirsten Maras (Jr., Anoka, Minn.) was one of six members of the Bemidji State University cross country to compete in the 2010 NCAA Central Regional Championship in Wayne, Neb. Nov. 20. The junior posted a time 25:29.00 to finish 108th overall and help the Beavers to 20th place.


Bemidji State places 10th at the NSIC Championship

The Bemidji State University cross country team closed out the regular season Saturday by competing for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Championship hosted by Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb.


Bemidji State places third at U-Mary Open

Bemidji State University senior Kristi Buerkle (Stacy, Minn.) led the BSU cross country team to third place Friday in the University of Mary Open at Riverwood Golf Course in Bismarck, N.D.

Buerkle leads sixth-place Bemidji State at Jimmie Invitational

Senior Kristi Buerkle (Stacy, Minn.) finished the Jimmie Invitational 5,000-meter course in 20:49.00 to place 23rd individually and pace the sixth-place Bemidji State University women’s cross country team in their first collegiate competition since Sept. 3, Friday afternoon in Jamestown, N.D.


Buerkle leads Bemidji State with top 10 finish to open the season

Junior Kirsten Maras (Jr., Anoka, Minn.) finished 15th, while helping to lead the Bemidji State University women’s cross country team to a third-place finish at the Viking Invitational in Valley City, N.D. Friday. Maras completed the 4,000 kilometer course in 17:17.80.


Professor Emaritus makes donation to women's track team

Professor Emeritus Mr. Alan Brew presented the Bemidji State women's track and field team with a monetary gift Tuesday, Aug. 31--his 72nd birthday. Accepting the gift on behalf of BSU are (L to R): Senior All-America sprinter Kristi Buerkle, Associate Director of Athletics/SWA Sarah Lavesque and assistant women's track and field coach Ben Baird.


Hougen picked as a Athlete to Watch in the NSIC; BSU tabbed 10th

The Bemidji State University women’s cross country team has been picked to finish 10th in a preseason poll of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) head coaches, announced today by league officials. Junior Allison Hougen (Bemidji, Minn.) was announced as a “2010 Athlete to Watch” in the same release.


Beavers named USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

With a team grade point average of 3.52, the Bemidji State University women’s cross country squad was named a 2009 NCAA Division II USTFCCCA Women’s Cross Country All-Academic Team, announced today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).


Beavers finish 20th at NCAA Central Regional

The Bemidji State University women’s cross country team finished 20th at the NCAA Division II Central Regional with 609 points. Adams State won the event with 36 points. Junior Kristi Buerkle (Bemidji, Minn.) was BSU’s top finisher at 105th with a time of 25:24.9. The event was hosted by Wayne State College at the Wayne Country Club in Wayne, Neb. BSU sent seven runners to the event that had 22 teams and 147 competitors.


Beavers finish 10th at NSIC Championships

The Bemidji State University women’s cross country team finished 10th at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference cross country championships with 328 points and a average time of 26:28.0. Augustana College (S.D.) won the event, posting an average time of 22:58.0 and 38 points. The University of Minnesota Duluth’s sophomore Megan Place won the event for the second time in row with a time of 21:48.0.The event was hosted by BSU at the Greenwood Golf Course in Bemidji, Minn.
