Valley City, N.D. -- Senior Kristi Buerkle
(Stacy, Minn.) placed 10th, while leading the Bemidji State University
women’s cross country team to a third-place finish at the Viking
Invitational in Valley City, N.D. Friday.
Buerkle completed the 4,000 meter course in 16:53.85 to finish just a fraction of a second out of ninth place, while edging teammate Alison Hougen (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.), who took 12th overall, by just under five seconds (16:58.14).
In addition, Kirsten Maras (Jr., Anoka, Minn.) posted a 17:17.80 to finish 15th, Pearl Walker (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) took 19th with a time of 17:56.73, Tina Larson (So., Morris, Minn.) finished in a time of 18:05.99 good for 20th, Michelle Ohman (So., Prior Lake, Minn.) was 22nd in a time of 18:14.10 and Cierra Robinson (So., Forest Lake, Minn.) rounded out BSU scoring times crossing the finish line 24th in a time of 18:19.83.
"We had a good weekend at Valley City," commented head coach Craig Hougen. "The ladies ran well led by Kristi, Ali and Kirsten. We were compeditive and ran better times than they did on the same course last year."The Beavers completed the race with 59 team points and sat 29 points off the pace set by first-place Jamestown College (30) and 20 points behind Dickinson State University (39), which took runner-up honors.
Bemidji State returns to action Sept. 25, when it travels to Minneapolis, Minn. to participate in the University of Minnesota’s legendary Roy Griak Invitational.
