Buerkle leads Bemidji State to third place at Pine Hill Invitational
CARLTON, Minn. (Pine Hill Golf Course) --  The Bemidji State University cross country team took third place at the University of Minnesota Duluth’s Pine Hill Invitational in Carlton, Minn. Saturday.

The Beavers were paced by senior Kristi Buerkle (Stacy, Minn.) who finished the 6K course in 24:47.5 to place 15th individually.  The senior finished 3:20 behind the pace set by Minnesota Duluth’s Morgan Place (21:27.4), who led the hosting Bulldogs to a team title.

In all, Bemidji State had eight runners finish the race, while it place two participants among the top 20. In addition to Buerkle, Ali Hougen (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) recorded a 25:21.9 to round out the top 20. Junior Kirsten Maras (Jr., Anoka, Minn.) finished just 26 seconds later (25:48.1) to take 23rd.  

The Beavers completed the race with 82 team points, 16 points behind St. Cloud State University and 67 off the pace set by Minnesota Duluth which turned in a perfect 15 to capture the team title.

The Beavers will take next weekend off before returning to action Oct. 22, when they travel to Bismarck, N.D. to participate in the Marauder Open.  The event is set for begin at 10 a.m.
