SIOUX FALLS S.D. -- Led by Vanessa Rae Lopez, the Bemidji State University cross country team placed 11th at the 2016 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships. Lopez turned in a 22:19.16 on the 6,000-kilometer course to place 32nd individually.
The Beavers totaled 347 with an average time of 24:20.53. In addition to Lopez, Sarone Palzine finished in 63rd position (23:52.21), Jane Austin was 75th (24:26.53), Madison Kealy was 81st (25:22.97) and Autumn Huju was 86th (25:41.77).
The University of Mary took its first NSIC team title scoring 33 points, as four Marauders finished among the top eight individuals, including runner up Alexis Zeis (19:54.68).
Emilee Trost of the University of Minnesota Duluth captured the individual title traversing the course in a time of 19:51.37 to earn a win by more than three seconds.
The Bemidji State cross country team now shifts its focus to the NCAA Central Regional. The 6,000-meter race will also take place in Sioux Falls, S.D. Nov. 5.
