SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Yankton Trail Park) -- Sarone Paulzine clocked a career-best 23:51.15 to place 124th and lead the Bemidji State University cross country team at the NCAA Central Regional in Sioux Falls, S.D. Saturday.
The Beavers turned in a team score of 829 to finish 29th in the 32-team field averaging 25:10.98 per runner in the 6,000-meter event. In addition to Paulzine, Jane Austin placed 159th (24:46.26), Madison Kealy crossed the finish line in 170th (25.03.23), Autumn Huju was 185th (25:52.93) and Julia Welciek rounded out BSU's competitors in 191st place (26:21.29).
The 2016 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference team champion University of Mary placed two runners among the top three, including individual champion Alexis Zeis, en route to the regional title. The Marauders scored 60 points to edge fellow NSIC member University of Minnesota Duluth (94). U-Mary's team average of 20:51.20 was more than 17 seconds faster that the Bulldogs and the rest of the field.
Zeis won her second consecutive individual title and led a contingent of NSIC runners that placed seven runners in the top 10.
The event brings the Beavers' 2016 season to an end.
