Hillstrom leads Bemidji State for third straight week at NCAA Central Regional

KEARNEY, Neb. -- Freshman Brittny Hillstrom finished atop the Bemidji State University cross country leader board for the third consecutive week as the team competed at the NCAA Central Regional Saturday in Kearney, Neb. Hillstrom finished 133rd overall with a final time of 24:32.95 while the team finished 30th of 32 teams.

Bemidji State averaged a time of 25:07.48 on the day, which is three seconds faster than its average time at the 2016 NCAA Central Regional meet.

Sarone Paulzine finished behind Hillstrom in 158th overall with a time of 25:05.37 while Ellen Peterson came in 182nd with a time of 25:56.97. Kristen Petron completed the 6K run in 193rd overall with a time of 26:30.38, two seconds shy of her personal best time. Ashley Kinnard rounded out BSU’s top five runners in 200th overall with a time of 26:55.09.

Ashley Herdering and Courtney Anderson were the final two runners for the Beavers, who finished 203rd and 217th overall, respectively. Herdering came in with a time of 27:08.41 while Anderson rounded out the team’s times with a finish in 30:50.06.

Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference foe University of Mary finished first as a team with its top runner, Alexis Zeis, finishing first overall with a time of 20:53.48.

Nestled in Northern Minnesota’s wooded region and located on the shore of Lake Bemidji, Bemidji State University sponsors 15 varsity athletic programs with NCAA Division I men’s and women’s hockey membership in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, while its 13 NCAA Division II programs hold membership in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
