Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Commissioner Butch Raymond today announced that Bemidji State University’s Courtney Anderson (Sr., Virginia, Minn.), Megan Beard (Sr., Eveleth, Minn.), Kelli Christiansen (Sr., Bemidji, Minn.), Brianna Duff (Sr., Ramsey, Minn.), Britney Greenwaldt (Sr., Morris, Minn.), Alison Hougen (Sr., Bemidji, Minn.) and Jessi-Beth McCannell (Sr., Brandon, Manitoba) have been selected as recipients of the third annual NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award.

The Bemidji State University cross country team will compete in the 2011 NCAA Division II Central Region Cross Country Championship on Saturday, Nov. 5 in Denver, Colo. The 6K run will begin at 11 a.m. at Washington Park, with the regional hosted by Metropolitan State College of Denver.

The Bemidji State University cross country team returns to action Saturday for the first time in a month as it competes in the Pine Hill Invitational at the Pine Hill Golf Course in Carlton, Minn. The meet is hosted by the University of Minnesota Duluth and scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

The Bemidji State University cross country team placed seventh at the Randy Smith Invitational Friday. Kirsten Maras (Sr., Anoka, Minn.) led the way for the Beavers placing 26th individually. Maras completed the team’s first 6,000-meter course of the 2011 season in a time of 24 minutes, 17.1 seconds to cross the line 3:25.0 off the pace set by University of Mary competitor Dakota Wolf (20:52.1), the event’s top finisher.

The Bemidji State University women’s cross country team opens the 2011 campaign with a pair of meets this weekend. The Beavers will travel to Valley City, N.D. on Friday, Sept. 2. to compete in the Viking Invitational at 4:00 p.m. before heading back to Bemidji to host the Jackpine Classic on Saturday, Sept. 3. The Jackpine Classic is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m.

The Bemidji State University women’s cross country team has been picked to finish 10th in a preseason poll of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) head coaches, announced August 25 by league officials. Senior Kirsten Maras (Ramsay, Minn.) was announced as a “2011 Athlete to Watch” in the same release.

Bemidji State University’s Kristi Buerkle (Sr., Stacy, Minn.) and Matt Read (Sr., Ilderton, Ontario) were named as the 2010-11 Bemidji State University Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Year, tonight at the BSU Student-Athlete Appreciation Banquet Thursday at Sanford Center. In addition, Mackenzie Haupert (Fr., Andover, Minn.) James Ellisor (Jr., F, Glendale, Ariz.) were selected BSU’s 2010-11 Female and Male Newcomers of the Year.

The Bemidji State University cross country team has been selected as a United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II All-Academic Cross Country Team in a recent announcement from the organization’s national office. BSU was one of 107 teams from across the country recognized for the honor.

The Bemidji State University women’s cross country team finished 20th at the NCAA Division II Central Regional with 609 points. Adams State won the event with 36 points. Junior Kristi Buerkle (Bemidji, Minn.) was BSU’s top finisher at 105th with a time of 25:24.9. The event was hosted by Wayne State College at the Wayne Country Club in Wayne, Neb. BSU sent seven runners to the event that had 22 teams and 147 competitors.

The Bemidji State University women’s cross country team finished 10th at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference cross country championships with 328 points and a average time of 26:28.0. Augustana College (S.D.) won the event, posting an average time of 22:58.0 and 38 points. The University of Minnesota Duluth’s sophomore Megan Place won the event for the second time in row with a time of 21:48.0.The event was hosted by BSU at the Greenwood Golf Course in Bemidji, Minn.
