Jenna Schurman (Jr., Sauk Centre, Minn.) and Marissa Mackedanz (So., Paynesville, Minn.) carded matching 92s to seat Schurman in 18th place after three rounds while Mackedanz is on her heals tied for 23rd. Courtney Edwards (Fr., Spicer, Minn.) was just two strokes behind BSU's leaders on day three with a 94. She heads into the final round of the event in 28th place.
The unique 72-hole championship is played as a combination of two 36-hole events. The first half of the championship was played Oct. 5-6 at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker, Minn. with the final two rounds to be completed at Fox Run Golf Course this week.
Upper Iowa University entered the second half of the championship holding a 36-stroke lead over the rest of the field. Thursday the Peacocks, led by overall leader Rachael Schmidt, opened a 51-stroke advantage over second place Concordia University-St. Paul.
Schmidt (+6) who fired two-over-par, 74 Thursday holds a 12-shot lead over teammate Laura Taylor and Winona State University's Megan Placko who are tied for second place at +18 (234) for the tournament.
Bemidji State did not register a team score during the fall portion of the event due to lack of participation. In order to submit a team score, at least four individual scores are needed. Because the first two rounds were missed, the Beavers are not be eligible for the team competition this week.
BSU takes to the course again today, opening final-round action with an 8:30 a.m. tee time.
