BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University women’s golf team opened the 2011 fall campaign with a third-place finish at the St. Cloud State Invitational Sept. 10-11 in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Beavers completed the 36-hole event with a score of 381-376--757 (+177) to sit 95 stokes off the pace set by team champion Winona State University (341-321--662 (+82)).
BSU opened the event carding a 381 (+89) at the par-73, 5,814-yard Wapicada Golf Course Saturday. The team, led by Kathryn Stoffels’ (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) 89 (+16), finished day one in third place behind Winona State (341 (+49)) and SCSU (356 (+64)).
Stoffels again paced the Beavers, posting a 92 (+20), as the teams changed scenery and moved to the par-72 Territories Golf Club on day two. BSU turned in a team score of 376 (+88) Sunday.
Winona State captured the team title with four individuals placing among the top six, which included the top three on the leaderboard. WSU’s Brittany Freund garnered medallist honors. Freund fired a total of 83-75--158 (+13) to take a one-shot edge over teammate Cassandra Johanns (82-77--159 (+14)).
Bemidji State returns home to host an 18-hole event at the Bemidji Town and Country Club Sept. 30.
