BSU opens spring season with dual victory

AVONDALE, Ariz. (Coldwater GC) -- The Bemidji State University women's golf team opened its 2014 spring season with a Dual in the Desert victory over University of Minnesota, Crookston.

Mary Elmquist (Elk River, Minn.) carded an 11-over-par 83 Tuesday to finish second at the par-72, Coldwater Golf Club in Avondale, Ariz. and lead the Beavers to the head-to-head victory versus the Golden Eagles. Bemidji State turned in a team total of 345 (+57) to grab a 33-stroke victory over UMC (378 / +90).

Minnesota, Crookston's Katie Sheetz captured individual medalist honors after turning in an 81 (+9).

The Dual in the Desert is hte first of a three-event spring season for the Bemidji State women's golf team.The Beavers return to action April 5-6 when they travel to Waterloo, Iowa to participate in the UIU Spring Classic.
